Once upon a time there was a little soul ready to be born. One day the little soul asked God, "They tell me you are sending me down to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
To which God replied, "Among the many angels, I
have chosen one for you. She will be waiting for you
and will take care of you."
"But God," the little soul said, "I am very happy here
in heaven. I don't want to do anything else but sing and
smile."
"Your angel will sing for you and will smile for you
everyday. And you will feel your angel's love and be
happy," God replied.
"But father," the little soul replied, "How am I going
to be able to understand when people speak to me?"
"Your angel will whisper to you the most beautiful
and sweetest words you will ever hear. And with much
love, patience and care, your angel will teach you to
speak," said God.
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" asked the little soul.
"Your angel will place your hands together and teach
you how to pray," said God.
"I've heard that there are bad men on earth. Who
will protect me?" the little soul pleaded.
"Your angel will defend you, even if it means risking
her own life," said God.
"Father, I will always be sad, because I will not be
able to see you anymore," cried the little soul.
"My precious child," said God, "I will never leave
you. I will always walk beside you. Your angel will
talk to you about me, and teach you the way to come
back home to me."
At that moment, there was much rejoicing in heaven
for the time had come for the birth of the little soul on
earth. The anticipation of the voices from earth could
already be heard in heaven. The little soul asked softly,
"God if I am about to leave now, please, please tell me
my angel's name."
"Your angel's name is of no importance, my precious
child," God replied, "for you will call your angel, Mother."
