gang. Ross was infatuated with Whittlesley. Ross knew that
Whittlesey needws money and that she used to work 2 shifts
until the state did away with overtime. He had Whittlesey start
bringing him in cartons of ciggarettes. After Diane got
caught by McManus bringing in ciggarettes, she told Ross
she can't do it anymore. Ross threatened her by saying
he'll tell the warden that she was bringing him in
ciggarettes.

During the riot, Ross picked up the gun that
Said had thrown over the side of the tower and shot Tim
McManus in the chest. As a result of this, Diane
Whittlesey took Officer Heim's gun and shot Ross three
times- once in the head, once in the chest, and once in
the testicles.
