Hey. So today’s the first day I haven’t really felt a need to write, which I’m
taking as a good sign. I had three more “first classes” today- calculus (one), approaches
to political analysis, and spanish (one), in that order. They all look pretty cool. And my
spanish class only had 26 people in it which means I have at least one small class. :-) The
calc teacher didn’t want to let me take the class at first because he didn’t think I’d ever
taken precalc (....technically, I haven’t.) but I kinda talked him into it when I pointed out
that the last math class I took was at a different college and had a different title than the
class he thought I took, and that the department head had been the one to look at my
transcript and place me in calculus. So I’m staying. I’ve forgotten a lot, though. We had
this “review” assignment and I kinda recognized all the terms and all the problems and all
that, I just didn’t actually remember how to do them. I figured it out, though, all but one,
by searching the book. I figure I’ll go to the library tomorrow and find a trig book and
figure out the last problem.
Anyway. my RA told me this evening that my roommate was supposed to come today. My internal reaction was “thanks for telling me!” cuz I have completely taken over that half of the room and it wouldn’t be good for anybody if she showed up when I was at class. But anyway, she’s not here, and I’d say 10:51pm and now word from her probably means she’s not coming today. It would be really late for her to come anyway- There are hardly any classes that haven’t already started, and you miss a lot on the first day. All teachers going over syllabuses (...i’m told it’s syllabi but I don’t care.) is actually helpful when you’re trying to figure out stuff like “am I going to spend my thanksgiving break eating or writing term papers?”) Anyway, I doubt she’s coming. And I really like having two desks and I’m getting the hang of not having a roommate so it would be just fine with me at this point if she didn’t come. She must be really scared, though, to keep saying she’s going to come and then not showing up. That’s all I can think of. I suppose she could be just blowing everybody off, though, saying “sure, I’ll be there!” and then not intending to at all.... but it does cost money to do that, since I don’t think you sign the “I’ll pay for the whole year even if I’m not here” contract until you get here. At least I know I didn’t. umm... it’s 10:57pm and my RA was supposed to come by after her 9:30 meeting with the resident director and tell me if anybody’s heard anything from my roommate, and I was just going to go take a shower but I think I heard somebody else go in there. Maybe not. Oh well. There was a poster vender out today. I got a pooh sticks poster. :-) I’m gonna go back tomorrow and buy one for my dad. He and I used to play pooh sticks when I was really little and we can never find anything that has them playing pooh sticks, even with all the Winnie the Pooh stuff that’s around now. I also got a cool smaller one that says “the hottest place in hell is reserved for those, who, in times of great moral crisis maintain their nuetrality” or something like that. It’s cool. I’ll buy another one or two for my room tomorrow if I hear my roommate’s not coming, because that side of the room is still pretty bare, and that vendor had good prices and a bigger poster selection than I’ve ever seen before. There was an awesome buffy the vampire slayer one. :-) And there were soem cool art prints and a really neat one of donald duck. I don’t usually like donald duck, I’m more of an uncle scrooge fan myself, but it was a really cool print. They also had some Tori Amos ones and a Sarah mcLachlan one, but I’d rather have a Paula Cole one than either of those. I found out today that I screwed up a whole bunch of bootleg trades because it never even occured to me that if you start the tape taping and then switch the speakers to CD/aux that the tape would tape the CD. So I mailed out a whole bunch of blank tapes (from when the CD wasn’t playing cuz I was watching tv) and a even more that are of “RENT” and I have no idea how to fix it because I deleted my records and even if everybody e-mailed me what tapes they need I don’t have access to a dual cassette thingy here, and my mom said she’d be willing to dub them for me but I don’t really have a way to get her the tapes. The best solution I can come up with is send the tapes home with my mom when she comes up this weekend and give her a list of who gets what tape and addresses and all that and hope she’ll mail me my tapes back when she’s done. The whole situation really sucks, though. I guess I’m gonna go take my shower now. later. |
