The Team
The background is very simple. The PCs are a team involved in industrial espionage. Their job is to breach rival companies security and make off with their secrets. They are designed to work for periods of time out of touch with each other and with Cheractin Astronaughtics.
In the run up to this scenario the team is on a rest period after a number of close scrapes culminating in the failure of their last mission. In this mission they were discovered long before their job was complete and were forced to fight their way out of the situation. One of the possible explanations for this was that they were betrayed by one of their number. Thus they took a self imposed three month rest period, to get themselves back into the correct frame of mind (and for an investigation to take place).
The team has been together for nearly four years at the start of the scenario and has become a tight working unit. A number of members have worked for other teams in their history but this is the longest running of any of them.
Cheractin Astronaughtics
Cheractin Astronaughtics are based in a small pocket empire just beyond the Imperial frontier, the Osiris Signitorate. The pocket empire is at peace with the Imperium and currently in diplomatic discussions over special conditions for membership of the Imperium. Cheractin is the supplier of J-drives for the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service in this sector and has been for the past 16 years. They have a reputation for quality and endurance in their products, they were chosen for this contract due to being significantly ahead of the Imperial corporate rivals. Over the last 18 moths there have been rumours that the gap between them and their competitors is not so great as it once was and, with the next deadline for tendering for the scout service contract only 1 year away they have been getting increasingly active in their research and development sector.
Dundar Corp.
Dundar is an Imperial based corporation, manufacturing a range of astronaughtic hardware. They have always manufactured cheap J-drives for personal transport, but have only recently entered the field of professional and industrial engines. They have a reputation for components with character, stemming from the family ownership and the emphasis on craftsmanship. They have produced a number of distinctive pieces in their history but they have never been thought to have the quality in their larger projects.
