I sat on the window sill of my room, my face turned towards the light of the rising sun. I felt my wife's arms come around my shoulders, her nose nuzzling my neck. I smiled and took her hand in mine. She leaned against me.
"I waited so long for this," she said. "To hold you again. To sleep with you. To share my life with you." She kissed my cheek. "I love you."
I kissed the back of her hand. "I love you, too." I looked away from the brightness of the light to the woman that was the light in my life. "You are an amazing woman."
She blushed. "I did it for you."
I pulled her into my arms. "Thank you."
We sat together in silence, just enjoying each other's company. We had been on Pollux for a week now, just enjoying each other's company and building the foundation that a strong family needed. Keithy called me daddy and he took to me easily, thanks to Allura and her stories of his heroic father. Zarkon attacked Pollux with what he had left, but he hadn't counted on Sven's new planetary shield. It prevented him from doing major damage. Pollux was now the jewel of the Alliance. Its diamond in the rough.
When we got back to Pollux after the battle, Sven told me that he had known Pidge was there all the time. He had counted on it, just in case we had gotten captured. He had the fleet prepared after I left in case it would be needed. Lance had made a speedy recovery thanks to his own will and a lot of therapy. He took the Red Lion against orders that day, but proved that he was fighting to gain his old life back. He still had a long way to go, but he was not going to lie down and relax anymore. Zarkon's fleet was destroyed and he had nothing left to fight with, the universe was quiet...for a little while. Plans were being drawn up to destroy Castle Doom and I had been offered one of the ships to lead.
I refused.
I wasn't going to let Keithy grow up without a father. I had already missed so much of his life and I wasn't going to miss any more. Allura didn't say anything, but she looked at me with tears in her eyes when she heard of my answer. She didn't want me to go, but she wasn't going to try and stop me.
Pidge was gone now, back to Galaxy Garrison to prepare for the invasion of Doom. I was proud of him. He told me how hard it was without Hunk around because they had always been together, and it was still a struggle not to cry when he thought of him, but he though of himself as independent now and no longer in someone else's shadow. He made a name for himself from his own blood and sweat, and he deserved all the praises in the universe.
I held my wife tighter and our lips were about to meet when we heard a small voice from the bed call out.
"Daddy, Mommy."
We stood and went back to our small son who was lying in the large bed. Allura took one side while I took the other. I tucked the blankets around Keithy. He turned to his side and rested his head on my shoulder. Allura smiled over his head at me and put her arm over both of us. I rested back against my pillow and closed my eyes.
All may not be right in the universe, but I had all I needed in my world and I wasn't going to do anything to lose them again. I looked to my bedside table and saw the Lion Key gleaming on its surface. I reached out and took it in my hand. I opened the drawer and dropped it inside.
