Chapter One

The Voltron Force and Coran sat at the dinner table, shoveling away one of Nanny's many delicious meals. Unfortunately, they could barely taste it, save Hunk who couldn't even miss a spice, because it had been another long day where lunches were skipped and hunger was ignored.

Five minutes into dinner, the doors slid open and a young blonde haired man walked into the room, a slightly self-conscious look on his face as they all turned to stare at him.

"Commander Branegan," he said, coming up beside Lance. "There is an intergalactic call for you from a Gwenevere DeSouza. She insists on speaking to you right now. She says that it's a matter of life and death."

Lance shot up from his seat and pushed past the soldier. Keith chuckled and returned to shoveling his food into his mouth.

"I wouldn't think that a matter as serious as that would be funny," Allura said, throwing him a strange look.

"With Gwen, something is always a matter of life and death."

"Who's Gwen?" Pidge asked.

"Lance's sister. She probably just needs to vent. She had a baby a few weeks ago, a girl named Morgan."

"They're really keeping up the legend," Hunk said around a piece of bread.

"What legend?" Allura asked.

"Arthurian legend," he answered. "That's where their mother got their names and where Gwen got Morgan."

"An old Terran fable," Keith clarified. "You should read it sometime. It's about knights and honor."

"I get enough of that here," she grumbled.

Meanwhile, in the privacy of his quarters, Lance looked at his sister, whose hair and eyes were as brown as his. They looked alike, except his features had softened into something quite beautiful in her and with the fire that was constant in her eyes, she had earned quite a following in her Academy days. Though time had cooled her temperament, the fire was still burning and if anything was brighter now that she had a family to love.

An hour flew by as they had been busy interrupting each other as they exchanged news. They had always been close, as most twins tend to be, and when she had gotten married and he was shipped off to Arus, they had missed each other's company. And now, Lance was missing the enjoyment of watching his only niece grow up.

"She's quite the looker," Gwen boasted. "Takes after her mother."

"I don't know, Gwennie," Lance teased. "Her uncle's not too shabby either."

"Let's just say that she got it from our side of the family," she laughed. "Don't tell Marc I said that." Gwen's smile turned tender. "I really miss you here, Little Bro."

He smirked. "Little? Only by five minutes and I'm bigger than you." He smiled fondly at her. "I miss you, too. Keith's trying to take your place, but he can only do so much."

Gwen laughed appreciatively. She disappeared from his view for a moment to return with a small bundle in her arms. Lance leaned forward, closer to the screen to get a better look at Morgan.

"She's cute," he cooed. "I can't wait to teach her how to..."

"You're not teaching her anything!" she cried, then snapped her free fingers. "That reminds me of why I called. You just kept on running your mouth and I completely forgot why I wanted to talk to you in the first place."

"Other than hearing my beautiful voice?"

"Morgan is going to be baptized in a month and I would like her godfather to be there."

He whooped. "I'm gonna be a godfather!"

She laughed. "You better be there!"

"I will be. I'll ask Allura at gunpoint if I have to."

"Do what you have to do. Just make sure you'll be here to told her. We worry about you, Lance."

"I'm alright, Gwen. If anything, you should be worried about yourselves. Luna is not exactly the safest place to be nowadays."

She grimaced. "I know. Marc is trying to get a transfer out of here, but you know how slow GG works."

"I'll see if I can get Keith to pull some strings for you. He has some influence with them."

"Thanks, Kid. Well, I gotta get going. This bill is going to be astronomical."

"I'll call you soon, Gwen. If you talk to Mom and Dad, tell them I said hi."

"They're coming to visit in a week so you can tell them yourself when you call and tell me that you're coming."

He put a hand on the screen and she put her hand against her screen where she could see his.

"Take care of yourself," she said. "I want to see you at Morgan's tenth birthday."

"I will, Gwen. Same goes for you."

"I'll do what I can. Bye."

She smiled one last time and then the screen went back to flashing the Arusian royal seal. Lance sat pensively on his bed, his chin resting on his knuckle. He wondered if he could get a few days off. It had been quiet lately, but Keith was afraid Zarkon was preparing a large-scale attack so he didn't know if he could even take a single day off. The last thing they needed was a missing Lion when he finally did attack. He pondered the possible angles he could argue when the door chime interrupted his thoughts.

"Come in," he called.

Keith walked in, a bowl full of ice cream in his hands. Lance took it eagerly and spooned the cold and creamy concoction into his mouth. Hunk had an ice cream maker shipped to Arus and he taught Nanny how to use it. That resulted in the best ice cream any of them had ever tasted.

"So, how's Gwennie?" Keith asked.

"Glowing with the first blush of motherhood," Lance replied. "Keith, do you think you could get them transferred off Luna? It's not exactly the best place to have a family these days."

"I can give it a try, but I can't make any promises."

"Luna's going to be a hot spot one of these days and I don't want them there."

Keith nodded. "I know, but there aren't enough safe havens left. Zarkon's silence is really beginning to worry me. The Garrison has scheduled a special intervid conference in a week's time to discuss it."

"I guess this isn't the right time to ask for a few days off then, huh?"

Keith shot him an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Lance, but we just can't spare you."

"Morgan is going to be baptized and I'm her godfather."

Keith sighed and racked his brain for a solution. "I can spare you two days at most and only if Sven is up to flying the Red while you're gone."

"Really?"

"I'll discuss it with Allura and Sven, and I'll let you know."

Lance grinned and clapped him on the back. "Thanks, Keith."

"No problem. I better get going. Allura wants to go over some security upgrades."

"She really working you to the bone, Commander," Lance said with a smirk. "I wonder if she ever gets any rest."

"As much rest as I'm getting, if not less. It's a little hard putting a kingdom back together."

"You bet it is."

"I'll see you later, then."

Keith walked out the door and towards Castle Control. When he got there, Allura was staring at Coran as if he had just announced that he would be flying Blue Lion.

"What happened?" Keith asked worriedly.

Allura looked from Keith to Coran, her mouth working.

"Are you sure?" she asked her advisor.

"Almost positively sure, Your Highness."

She trained her eyes on Keith and he looked at her expectantly.

"He just told me something unbelievable."

"What?" he prompted.

"Romelle...it appears that there's a possibility that she's my cousin. She could be the Princess of Pollux."
