The Greatest Managers of All Time

This section focuses on the greatest managers in wrestling history. Though there have been many brilliant showmen and ring strategists who have guided a galaxy of stars to the heights of the wrestling universe, these ten managers have left behind a legacy which many will aspire to but few will equal.

Red Berry
"Wild" Red Berry, a garrulous, effervescent little man in a Tom Landry-type hat and suit, led his stable of champions to the pinnacle of WWWF achievement throughout an illustrious career. In the 'dark ages' of Federation history, his proteges had no other title than Bruno's to strive for, and though they did so ferociously yet in vain, they carved their name in ring history with a flourish only Berry could have inspired.
His big gun was the awesome Gorilla Monsoon; combined with the formidable Professor Tanaka, it took Bruno himself to put an end to their reign of terror. Hans "the Great" Mortier, the European heavyweight champ, 6'2", 265 pounds of twisted steel, was their backup, although they also claimed the notorious Crazy Luke Graham, El Toro "Bull" Ortega and Tank "TNT" Morgan as stablemates. Bruno, and his cohorts Spiros Arion, Latin matinee idol Victor Rivera, and cousin Antonio Pugliese, spent the latter part of the Sixties in raging mat wars against Berry's grapplers that remains the legacy of a notoriously forgetful WWF empire.
Berry was also a wrestling journalist who wrote a fluent and informative column for Wrestling Revue for many years. He disappeared from the scene shortly before Sammartino's legacy ended, just as football's Landry did after his team had reached its nadir. With Monsoon turning babyface, Tanaka heading for Hollywood and Mortier off to an ignominous series of tank jobs in Canada on into oblivion, Berry left a glorious legacy behind and a void that would take many years to fill.
