Ramsin's DEFENSE!!

The DEFENSIVE ENDS

The man who had 155.5 career sacks (unofficially) - The man who recorded 24 sacks in 1968 (unofficially) - The man who had 896 combined tackles - The man who was named NFL Defensive Player Of The Year as well as NFL Defensive Lineman Of The Year (twice 1967, 1968) - The man who had 7 All-Pro Seasons - 7 Pro Bowl seasons - 7 consecutive Pro Bowls apperances - The man who invented the now outlawed 'HEAD SLAP'


David 'Deacon' Jones
(Jones played before I started following the Rams, but I couldn't leave him off my team)

The man who is sitting in 2nd with 150.5 career sacks (unofficially) - The man who was named the NFL Defensive Player Of The Year in 1975 as well as the NFC Defensive Player Of The Year (1975, 1976) - The man who played in 7 consecutive Pro Bowls - The man who played with a broken bone in his leg during Super Bowl XIV - The man who after years of retirement and countless nominations finally made it into the National Football Hall Of Fame.


Jack Youngblood

The man who recorded 2 safeties in one game - The man who played a big part in the Rams winning 7 consecutive NFC Western Divison Titles - This is a feat no other NFL team has accomplished.


Fred Dryer

This man had 17 NFL sacks in 1999 - He is emerging as one of premier defensive ends in league - This man posseses the exciting combination of size, strength and speed - He has 1 Pro Bowl appearance - He has 2 safeties under his belt - 3 blocked three field goals - He was honored by his teammates and coaches as the 1995 Carroll Rosenbloom Award recipient, signifying 'Rams rookie of year' - Earned 1998 Daniel F. Reeves Memorial Award as team Most Valuable Player as voted on by coaches and players...first defensive player selected in 1995 NFL Draft (6th overall).


Kevin Carter

The DEFENSIVE TACKLES

The man who recorded 92 sacks in 14 years of service - The man who is the Rams' all-time leading tackler with 915 tackles - The man who had 8 straight All-Pro seasons - The man who played in 14 consecutive Pro Bowls.


Merlin Olsen

This man was part of the defensive team that held their opponets to the FEWEST points allowed for one season (135 pts in 1975)- This man had 5 Pro-Bowl seasons and 5 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances.


Larry Brooks

This man may not hold any team records, but he did achieved a personal best...10 sacks in 1980 while only starting 3 games.


Mike Fanning

This man has 27.5 sacks, 3 INT's and 161 tackles to his credit so far - He has emerged as one of the young leaders of the Rams' defense.


D'Marco Farr

The LINEBACKERS

This man had a total of 72.5 sacks as a Ram - He had 16.5 sacks for not one, but 2 seasons (1988, 1989) - He had 325 tackles - He had 2 INT's (1 for a TD) - He had 3 safeties - He has the intensity and the heart - He is exactly what my defensive team would be made of!


Kevin Greene

This man had a 59 yd return for a TD in a playoff game (@ Dallas 1975) - He was the NFL Rookie Of The Year in 1971 - He was named NFC Linebacker Of The Year 3 times (1974, 75, 77) - He had 5 All-Pro seasons - 6 Pro Bowl seasons - 5 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances .


Isiah Robertson

Another man that didn't achieve many personal records, but was a part of the defensive team that held their opponents to the FEWEST points allowed for one season (135 pts in 1975) - The man who picked up his nickname from sawing a vehicle in half during his college days at the University of Tennessee.


Jack 'Hacksaw' Reynolds

This man may not have had impressive stats with his 8 years as a Ram, but with his name he was born to wear the HORNS!

The CORNERBACKS

This man had 34 INT's - He had 5 career TD's - He gained 645 yds - As a punt returner he had 146 returns - 42 his Rookie Season - He gained 1,451 yds - In 1981 this man led the Rams in punt returns - He also recorded 2 TD's and gained 207 yds against the Atlanta Falcons that year - This man had 3 All-Pro seasons


LeRoy Irvin

This man was a quick footed cornerback for the Rams - He was an All-Pro - He had 1 Pro-Bowl appearance.


Rod Perry

This man tied a Rams' club record in 1979 with 3 INT's in one game - He played in 2 Pro-Bowls - He had the reputation for being a punishing tackler as well as a smart defender.


Pat Thomas

In 8 seasons this man has turned out to be one of the best corners in the league today - He has had 3 TD's - One of those TD's came on a 74 yd TD fumble recovery(against Arizona in 1994) - He has 23 INT's for 226 yds and has 2.5 sacks.



Todd Lyght

The FREE SAFETIES

This man sits in 2nd place with 37 INT's - He has 671 yds gained - He has 4 career TD's to his credit - He had 6 blocked punts with 3 in one season (1987) - He was named NFL Defensive Back Of The Year 3 times (1980, 81, 83) - He had 3 All-Pro seasons - 4 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances.


Nolan Cromwell

This man had 5 fumble recoveries in 1975 - He was also voted as the Rams' Most Outstanding Defensive Back that year, his first season as a starter - He was considered one of the NFL's hardest hitters and tacklers by opposing receivers and runners


Bill Simpson

The STRONG SAFETIES

This man was a great all around athlete who turned down a bonus offer from the Boston Red Sox's to play pro football - He was great on the safety blitz.


Dave Elmendorf

This man is known as one HARD HITTER- He not only knocked Tiki Barber of the Giants out of the game, but he also took the QB out a few plays later - He holds 2 Ram records both for the longest fumble recovery for a TD - One for 98 yds (against New Orleans) as well as one for 73 yds (against Chicago)


Toby Wright

There you have it! The men I would love to see play side by side. These men would show no mercy to opposing teams on the battle field of play. This would be my idea of a defense!

*Given the fact that there are extremely talented players on past Rams teams, they were left out due to the fact these are the players I grew up watching play over the years. Why not e-mail me and tell me who YOUR all-time Rams team would be.
