About Sigma Iota Sigma

Sisterhood is many things. It's a warm smile on a cold and rainy day, a friendly hug, a cheerful hello...It's all that a good and lasting friendship is, Only better. It's treasured. It's sacred. It's knowing that there will always be someone there for you. It's dreams shared, and goals achieved. It's counting on others and being counted on. It is real.
-Kathleen M. Kruesi
Since its beginning, the sorority was meant to be a family away from your family. College women who support each other during their struggles of growing up. That is exactly how the founders of Sigma Iota Sigma have modeled their sorority. We are there for the good times and the bad times that our sisters have experienced. Through a unique pledge process we develop a deep friendship for each other and learn the values of sisterhood, unity, and trust.

Sigma Iota Sigma Sorority began as little sisters of Omega Delta Phi at Nassau Community College. We broke apart from them, and became an established chapter at NYIT on April 29, 1997.
We currently have 11 active sisters who are involved in wide range of aspects of campus life. President Shannon Delaney is an architecture major in her senior year. Vice President Leigh McManus is a senior in the advertising program, and also works in the Office of Residential Life.
Raina Kurdt is a junior majoring in graphic design, and has a graphic design internship. As our social representative, Audrey Palmisano is responsible for planning some of our social events. She's currently a junior, also in the advertising program.
Michelle Syner majors in interior design, and has worked in the Career Network Center. She was recently inducted into the National Honor Society. We are very proud of her! Sophomore Melissa Meder is also majoring in architecture, and is our GLC representative. Current public relations representative, Bianca Giudice, is a sophomore in the advertising program. You'll have to keep an eye out for sophomore, Heather Staub, as she is attending the Manhattan Campus this year, also majoring in advertising.
Last semester, Sigma Iota Sigma proudly welcomed 3 new sisters into our growing family. The girls of the Eta Class consist of Selena Jimenez, a junior in interior design. She's also a peer mentor, and an R.A. in Leadership Hall.
Elizabeth Sambrano is another of our many sophomore majors, and is here at NYIT on a softball scholarship. Dianna Kiefer attends Briarcliffe College in Bethpage. She is also a graphic design major, specializing in website design. You can check out her work at www.angelfire.com/ny2/SigmaIotaSigma/master.html.
Sigma Iota Sigma has some very exciting things planned for the upcoming semester. Beginning on February 1, we will be selling our annual Balloon-A-Grams. Every Valentine's Day, Sigma Iota Sigma helps you send something sweet to your sweetie! We are also working on getting Karl Daniels to teach a self defense class, and sponsoring a recycling effort for the month of April.
Be sure to look for flyers for our interest meetings, events with other organizations on campus, and other upcoming events!
