Neo - (A.K.A. Thomas Anderson) Neo was a computer programmer for MetaCortex. He was also a computer hacker in search of Morpheus, without really knowing why.  Now that he's found Morpheus and the truth, it's up to him to save humanity.

Trinity - Trinity was also a computer hacker. One of her most famous hack jobs was of the I.R.S. Database. She's second in command on the Nebuchadnezzar. The oracle told her she'd fall in love with "The One".

Morpheus - Morpheus is the captain of the hovercraft Nebuchadnezzar. The Oracle told him that he would find "The One". His whole life was spent searching for "The One", and with the discovery of Neo, he believes his search is over.

Agent Smith - Agent Smith is human only in form. In actuality, Agent Smith is a computer program designed to keep peace among those in the Matrix. He dislikes his job, though, and is motivated by this hate.

Cypher - Cypher's been out of the Matrix for nine years. Over those years, his resentment of Morpheus has grown along with his desire to return to the Matrix.

Tank - Tank and his brother Dozer are the only two people not born in the Matrix. They were born on Zion, the last human city. Tank is the operator for the ship's computers and is in charge of tracking his shipmates when the enter the Matrix.

The Oracle - The Oracle is approximately 175 years old. She has been in the Matrix since the beginning of the Resistance. She told Morpheus that he would find "The One" when he (or she) was reborn.

Tank - Dozer and his brother Tank are the only two people not born in the Matrix. They were born on Zion, the last human city. Dozer is the "Repairman", if you will, for the Neb.'s engines and such.
