BSB History: How They Came To Be The Biggest Boy Band

Backstreet Boys
How They Met

In 1993 the group didn't exist yet. This is the order they met A.J., Howie, Nick, Kevin, and Brian. A.J. McLean met Howie Dorough through their vocal instructor. They kept running into each other at auditions, then they found out they shared the same interest, music. So they found Nick Carter, who they also kept running into, and they formed a little trio. Boyz II Men and Color Me Badd inspired all three of them to become singers. They wanted more in the group so they kept looking for a new person. They then found Kevin Richardson who worked at Disney at the time.

One day they were reading a local newspaper and they were reading the ads. They came across this one ad that said that they were interested in forming a boy band. Louis J. Pearlman was starting a record company and also the one who placed the ad.

A few days later Pearlman hired 2 talent agents in Florida to hold auditions for performers interested in the ad. Fifty auditions were set up for candidates. The four of them were one of those fifty auditions. The four really did nail the audition and agreed that they needed a fifth person to help the sound. This is when Kevin called his cousin, Brian Littrell, in Kentucky to do the audition with them. The next day Brian flew in and their voices combined made, not only magic, but a new born group. The boys joined together, now all they need is a name. They wanted a catchy cool name. Then they remembered a flea market in Orlando called Backstreet Market, all the teenagers hung out there. So that's how they got there name.

Donna Wright, their manager, started getting them bigger deals at theme parks, fairs, and music festivals. They didn't want to do the same 'ole high school and club gigs. The Backstreet Boys started getting popular when they did an opening act for Brandy, a popular teenage singer.

There first single, Tell Me That I'm Dreaming didn't make a big hit like they wanted it to. They were dying to get in with a big record group, so Donna Wright knew exactly what to do. One day while they were doing one of their live performances Donna called up one of her friends from Jive Records and held up her cellular phone out so the person can hear what they sound like and how the girls go wild for the guys. And immediately Jive Records signed the Backstreet Boys because they really liked what they heard. There wish had come true.

Backstreet Boys left the United States and started going to foreign countries. When they came back to the United States they had a smashing hit, which made it in the top ten singles, called Quit Playing Games (With My Heart). That was my favorite song when it first came out.

The next song that came out was As Long as You Love Me, which in the music video they do a dance with folding chairs. Everybody came next because they were back in the United States and the song says, "Everybody, rock your body, everybody, rock your body right, Backstreet's back, ALL RIGHT!" The I'll Never Break Your Heart came next, but it didn't make that big of a hit. Well, not as much as All I Have to Give did. The song, I Want it That Way, was their biggest hit of all because they're more popular and it was one of the songs off of their new CD Millennium, which wasn't even out yet.

Now 19 year old Nick, 21 year old A.J., 24 year old Brian, 26 year old Howie, and 27 year old Kevin are hoping to keep up the good work and keep on pleasing their fans with their music.
