A retired NYPD cop convicted of transporting 10 kilos of cocaine from Long Island to the Bronx for $12,000 was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison.
"I'm a good man," sobbed Alfredo Rivera, 53, who faced up to life behind bars. "I just did a stupid thing because I couldn't say no."
Rivera was arrested in 2010 as part of a sting operation.
He was found guilty after a four-day trial last February of participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine and possession of a weapon.
He agreed to get involved in the conspiracy by Rafael Jimenez, a former NYPD auxiliary officer, who pleaded guilty and was sentenced last April to more than 10 years in prison.
Rivera became a cop in 1986 and during his 20 year on the force spent most of his time assigned to the court system.
