Aim: How would you describe the relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Solness?

Write a journal entry on-
What are some of the reasons people do not understand or misunderstand each other?

Procedures:
1. Share your journal entry with a partner. Then share with the whole class.

2. Read stage direction on page 124. Why is Mrs. Solness is dressed in black all the time? What does  the black dress symbolize ?

3.What words does Mrs. Solness use to describe their marriage? Why does she feel that way?

4. According to Mrs. Solness, how does Mr. Solness treat her all the time?

5. In the middle of page 127, Mrs. Solness states,"But it's what came of the fire-the dreadful thing that followed--! That is the thing! That, that , that!" Can you guess what "that" Mrs. Solness is referring to?

6. Based on the dialogue between Mr. and Mrs. Solness on page 128-129, what do you think Mr. Solness's feelings towards Mrs. Solness? Support your answer.

a. Write a monologue for Mrs. Solness expressing her feelings towards Mr. Solness and their marriage.

b. As an outsider, you may see the problems in the Solness's marriage more clearly. if you were Mrs. Solness or Mr. Solness friend, what advice would you like to give him/her ot them?
