BlackHawk Rocks Club 92.5!!
I've been a fan of BlackHawk's since I first heard their music but after seeing them for the first time, I'm now a HUGE fan of theirs. No matter what kind of electronic equipment you have, you can't beat a live performance and in such a small venue! Shortly after this night, I acquired Henry Paul's self-titled album from his rock~n~roll days and the Henry Paul Band's "Grey Ghost" album(an awesome album). Here's a little of how the evening went. I don't remember all of the songs they performed but suffice it to say, they did most of their major hits and of course, 'Postmarked Birmingham'...which I absolutely love.
My friends and I were waiting to get into Club 92.5 which holds about 300 people and has the smallest stage you've ever seen. There were about 30 people in line for a while and only 4 people in front of us at the front of the line. At one point while people were chatting, my friend's Mother nudged me in the arm several times and when I turned around, who was walking by but Henry Paul...looking for a way into the club. In typical school-girl fashion, I yelled Oh My God! (okay several times LOL) When I yelled, others noticed he was there too and began wooohoooing! He was about 3' away from me and although he acted a little surprised that someone would react that way, he found it rather amusing too. He said hello to everyone and before I could get my camera out, he'd entered the club.
Anyway, we were let in and had a couple of hours before the guys took the stage. Once the DJ's came out, we took our spots in front of the stage (my knee was literally on the top of the stage), while some continued dancing. By now the place is packed to the brim and it's extremely warm in there.
At around 9:00ish everyone had filled the dance floor to be as close to the stage as possible. BH took the stage and performed a couple of songs and Henry smiled at me several times. People were passing their cameras to me to get photos for them. Then Henry talked about how great it was to be back in PA and how well Van was recovering from cancer. He turned to me and said, "I have never heard anyone yell as loudly as you did earlier, I mean I have never heard anyone yell like that before." He then said, "did you change your clothes from before"? I said, "no and he said, did you have a jacket on before" and I said, yes". He then said, "oh, okay I can see all of you now" and grinned from ear to ear. Now before anyone gets the wrong impression, I was dressed conservatively (as usual) and in all black. Needless to say all my friends were saying "alright Cheryl!", while others cheered and clapped.
Before they left the stage, my friend's Mother was given Dave's towel and Henry handed out guitar picks. After they came back onstage, I was given Henry's towel by Dave and they performed more songs. As they were leaving the stage for the night, Henry turned around and winked. Those guys put on an incredible show and I can't wait to see them again!!!
(An awesome acoustic set!)
