First, I'd like to say that it is always a pleasure seeing Carol and likewise meeting Stacy who I hope has a safe trip to TN! I would also love to say it was a pleasure finally getting to meet Anthony and chat with him, Dave and Henry. As we all know, these guys go out of their way to show their appreciation to the fans but each time seems even more special than the last. I tried to jot down as many of the songs they performed as possible and thanks to Anthony who gave me the set list after the show while the guys were packing up, I may have come as close to a complete list as ever before. Of course the guys strayed from the list but I think I got the majority of it. Oh, before I forget...if you're ever in Annapolis and you need a place to stay, the Loews Hotel on West St. is very nice and one of the things I liked best about it is the desk clerks, bell hops and valet people make a point of referring to you by your name. Okay, the guys opened with "Let 'Em Whirl". This was my first time hearing this song live and I knew it was going to be a special acoustic evening. It was a relaxed fun-filled show before a small enthusiastic BH starved crowd with a volley of bantering between the guys that had us in a state of constant laughter. The chemistry talent wise and the humor between Henry, Dave and Anthony is undeniable that these three gentlemen were destined to come together. In between songs they joked about the 5 new tuners and 3 stands that had been purchased and the antique truck (money pit)that Henry is restoring, etc., Anthony joked about the opportunity to sign on with the group and playing to larger crowds only to find out they'd be playing smaller clubs for a while. LOL
At the request of Henry, Anthony demonstrated his rock-style way of hopping around the stage. He is such a welcome addition! This went on pretty much through the evening with an ensuing discussion of the recent country artists who had been charged with DWI. I love Wynonna to bits but her mug shot was so unflattering. LOL I can only think that she ran out with sunglasses and a hat on...not a stitch of makeup...when she was stopped.
On a serious note, Henry spoke of the guys not being on radio. He said, in spite of that fact they were forging ahead with the new album of which most of the songs had been cut. This was met with a thunderous applause from the audience! We were treated to "Everlast", "That's What I'm Talkin' About" and "Chamelions Allstar Love Band", in addition to "Love Like This", "Spirit Dancer" (Van was certainly smiling and I thank you for doing this), "One More Heartache". "Postmarked Birmingham", "Goodbye Says It All", "Like There Ain't No Yesterday", I'm Not Strong Enough to Say No", "Sure Can Smell the Rain", "Down in Flames", "Cast Iron Heart", "Just About Right", "Grey Ghost", "King of the World", "Brothers of the Southland", "Every Once in a While" and "Big Guitar". Thank you Anthony because I didn't write all of this down!
After the show, the guys signed autographs for everyone in the lobby. This is always one of my favorite most endearing parts of a BH show...getting to see the fans interact with the guys. Some country artists who reach the pinnacle of success seem to forget about the fans and mimic their rock/pop star counterparts. BlackHawk remains loyal to their fans and that's freakin' cool! Thanks guys for making this solo flight a very nice one and I'll see you New Years Eve!!!!!!
This was a cool view outside my window over looking an atrium of sorts with the lobby behind that.-->
