Went to see John with Chris Cagle at the Maryland State Fair. John got us into the fairgrounds which meant we were some of the first into the stage area. Once we arrived at the fair, he called me and told me and my friends to follow him and some of the band members into the VIP parking area so we would be parking near the buses. He is absolutely TOO sweet!! As a token of appreciation for his friendship, I didn't want to take him wine again and I thought it can be really hard to eat healthy on the road so I took him some fresh fruits and Jersey tomatoes that he and the band could enjoy.
We arrived just in time to pick up our backstage passes to meet Chris and the show rocked as usual. It was very moving the way Chris honored a group of soldiers from the Walter Reed Hospital who had returned from Iraq by meeting with them and then dedicating "Laredo" to them. I love the way Chris has incorporated a segment where each band member gets to show his stuff because when John's in the spotlight, the crowd goes wild!! He is truly one of the greatest fiddle players out there and it's no wonder Charlie Daniels enjoys sharing the stage with him!!! After the show, John took us backstage and told security that we were family and we played with Chris's dog while Chris prepared to meet with some people from the American Red Cross, etc. My friend Charmaine got to meet Chris finally thanks to John and it made her day!! He walked us to our car and helped carry our stuff. After we said our goodbyes, we were on the road again. I still may have some photos I haven't gotten developed yet so I may have some even better photos.
