Ch. 14

"It's one o'clock in the morning and Nick's parents still aren't here!"

Kristin shrugged. "Kevin, you have to respect their right to privacy. Could you imagine going that long without seeing your spouse?"

"Sure. I go even longer periods without seeing you."

"It's not the same thing. We don't have five children to worry about."

"Children? More like demons."

"They're not demons."

"You're right. The Carter girls are quite friendly when not hormonal."

How could I have let this happened? Why am I sitting up with my beautiful girlfriend wondering about Nick's parents?! "Maybe I should call them."

"That would be intruding."

"It would not! They left their brats with me!"

"Well, it's good parenting practice."

Parenting practice? Hadn't I explain my 'puppy theory' to her? I was broke of my thoughts of the theory as the phone rang. "Hello? Mrs.Carter?" Please be Mrs.Carter! Lady, if you have a flat tire or car trouble of any kind I will find you and carry you back here on my back! Just get here!

Static flared between myself and the other party. "Kevin?"

"Yes?"

"This is Mrs.Carter. Bob and I have decided to stay at a hotel."

"A hotel?"

"Uh huh. The weather is too bad to try to dirve home."

"Really?" I looked out the window. "It's not raining or storming."

She paused. "Um, well, we had car trouble and well-yes that's it."

"I'll come find you! I'll fix your car!"

"Kevin, don't be silly."

"But-"

"You just stay there and we'll see you in the morning. Did the kids have a good Halloween? Sorry about their costumes."

"Me too. But Kristin really saved us. So, they had a swell time."

"Excellent news to hear. And you and Kristin?"

"It was....an adventure."

"I can imagine. Kevin, my husband and I really love you and Kristin for doing this. It's rare we get a chance alone together. So, this means a lot. More than you'll ever know."

Now, did she have to go and do that? She was making me feel guilty. Damnit, all women play rough! They know just how to get what they want.

"Uh..." I cringed. "It was my pleasure, Mrs.Carter. You and your husband make sure to get a bouncy bed- I mean big bed.... Um...bye."

Krisitn stared at me laughing. "What was that all about?"

"The Carters are staying at a hotel."

"Oh, I see."

"It's just not fair. What could they possibly do there they can't do here?"

"It's pretty obvious. They already have five children. I'd say they're old pros at the game of love."

I sat down clutching my stomach. Her words had caused horrid images to play into my mind. I rested my head against the table. "That's sickening!"

She stroked my brow. "Just relax. You want me to stay here tonight?"

"YES! Don't leave me alone with the little oompah loompahs!"

"Okay, I'll stay. I'll just sleep on the couch."

"Nick's there."

"Okay. Um.."

"We'll just take their room."

She sighed. "I'd feel bad sleeping in their bed, Kev."

"Why you could care of the children made in that bed."

"Do you want me to puke on you?"

Ouch. The girl obviously can't face the facts of reproduction.

"Just don't worry about it, Kris. Besides, I don't want you driving at this time of night."

"Okay, you win. Let's get some sleep, it's been a long day and night."

I wrapped my arm around her shoulders guiding her upstairs. "Thank you for helping me."

"No problem. Besides, things can only get better. All the kids are asleep."

"AHHHHHHHH!" one of the children wailed running out of their room. "KEEEEVIN!"

Correction: they were all asleep!

"Kevin!" Angel screamed throwing herself into my arms.

"What is it?"

"There's something in my hair!"

"Lemme' see."

The other children joined as I examined her head with Kristin's help.

"Ew!" I sighed. "Well, Angel, there's gum in your hair."

"GUM?"

Aaron yawned. "Oh, yeah, now I remember where I left my gum!"

Angel sobbed. "How do we get it out?"

Good question kid.
