While I've sat here listening to one of my obscure, yet critically-acclaimed CDs by an artist with credibility pouring out his/her ass, thoughts of stupid pop bands have entered my mind once again. As I think I've stated before, some of them deserve every ounce of trashing they receive and others don't.
I was watching MuchMusic (I think that's the one I was watching) the other day and saw the video for the Spice Girls' "Say You'll Be There". I was singing along of course. Of course all of them have the voices of turkeys but y'know, they do have talent. They're excellent at selling their product. That's their talent. It's like watching a commercial for a cereal that might taste like dog food but the kid's so enthusiastic and happy to be eating it that you can't help but going out and getting yourself a box. The Spice Girls, Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, etc. all are like that kid. Whether they suck or not, their job is to sell their product and they're all doing a good job at it. That's their talent. That's not a bad thing either.
