This was an exhausting day. I can hardly keep my eyes open. After a very drawn-out meeting, I had car trouble on the way home. Last week I shelled out $400 to have the car fixed. And I need it tomorrow, so I'll have to be up at the crack of dawn to take the car to the garage and DB to work so that I can be in the north county by 8:45. ARRGGHH !
The New Job Starts--Without a Bang

Today was my first "management meeting", and the official start of this new job. No meetings are fun, and this was no exception. But I think I'll be able to pretty much design this job, as no one has any real idea of what a "Staff Development Manager" should be doing. I presented my ideas and a few forms, and everyone nodded their heads and said, "Good". However, I know, as I get going, there will be stumbling blocks. I'm mentally prepared for them, but I also know the longer I go without one, the harder it will be to give up my ideas.

I'll start slowly, with the education staff. I plan to attend the Content Area meetings for a while to get to know the problems, the areas of concern, and how I can interface with them to design training for each of the components.

In the meantime, I have to plan a "new staff orientation" and have it up and running on September 10. Of course, first, there is my vacation, then full staff in-service, then I'm training the part time teachers in High/Scope on September 9, and, Bingo!, the next day is the 10th! So what else is new?

At least I got in a walk after work. And it was beautiful; bright October sky, warm sun, chilly breeze. I composed a little ditty on the walk, feeling the frustrations of the day drop off with every step. Then I picked kale, tomatoes, and spinach to have with my supper.

I experimented with my supper (DB is working late) and sauted the Zephyr summer squash with a red Jingle Bell pepper, a tiny onion, a clove of garlic, and Chinese Five Spice. When the onion was transluscent, I added the kale and spinach, covered the pan, and let it steam. I added hard boiled egg, a little cheese, and some fresh grated nutmeg, then stirred in a handful of cooked organic garden pasta. Yummy!

I love my garden!
