The Village of ULRICHSTEIN:

This is the ‘Village of ULRICHSTEIN,’ located in Hessen, Germany, just above the state of Bavaria. Bavaria, is where the ULRICK (ULRICH-Original Spelling in Germany.) Family traces their ancestral roots of Origin back before the the year 1100 A.D. and is first recorded in the city of Nuremberg, Bavaria. From here They branched and migrated, gaining prosperity as a notable family of Bavaria and other places. ULRICHSTEIN Is one of these places.

ULRICHSTEIN, was founded in the 13th century and received city rights in 1347 from Heinrich Von Eisenbach, ruling the city as Vassal of the Dukes of Hessen. The Oldest seal of the city dates from the early 16th century and shows the striped lion of Hessen. A second seal dating from the 17th century shows the same lion.

In the meantime in 1605 the arms of Ulrichstein were mentioned in a roll of arms as an Uncrowned Striped Lion in a Shield With a Silver Bordure. A little later the arms appeared in the collection of Siebmacher as a red lion with a blue bordure. Later images all showed a lion in a bordure, but the colours differed widely, and the lion was shown both crowned as well As uncrowned.

Here be the wappen/cost-of-arms for this village In 1605. It would therefore be: The Wappen of the Lord/Ruling family at that time, named 'ULRICH.' There is without a doubt, that this village has a definite connection with the surname ULRICH. ULRICHSTEIN: Is located About 40-50km west of Fulda and 20km(+ or -) southwest of Auerbach.

The meaning of “ULRICHSTEIN.” It means: “ULRICH-STONE,” as in Stone Castle. (Castle made out Of Stone) This means that there was most likely a Castle/Village at this location intrusted to a Lord/Ruling family at that time, named 'ULRICH.' There was, because there is a crest given to that lord/ruling family of ULRICH which is shown below. (compiled by: R.Ulrick-2000, A.D.)
