High on a hill
overlooking the sea.
A
tiny seed grew
into a great Dogwood tree.
Now, as the tree grew;
he fell in love
with man.
And wanted to help him;
at
sea or on land.
At first thought,
he wanted to be;
a
fishing boat drifting
on a crystal sea.
The years flew by
and still he did
stand.
With his heart full of
love,
awaiting the touch of man.
Taller now, he could look down;
into the
valley and see.
The little children,
running around;
and a childs cart he
wanted to be.
He remembered the day;
man finally
came.
The pain as they cut into him!
Knowing nothing would be the same.
They drove spikes into him;
and when they
were through
a man hung on him.
There
was nothing he could do!
In his despair, his heart cried out,
"Look
what my love has brought me to!"
And the
man raised his head saying,
"Fear not; for
I love them too!"
On the day they both died
A promise was
made
That changed forever
The shape of
the Dogwood tree.
The tree now grows
with twisted limbs.
It's great height stunted
as was promised
to him.
Scattered among Springs green
leaves.
You'll find crosses of
white,
notched with rust and blood.
Its
flower a crown of golden light.
It looks just this way today.
And so it
will remain.
A fisherman's
promise~~~~~
To the tree that loved man.
