When Colonel was
about 5 years old, he was hit by a truck. He
survived
this incident with flying colors; but the accident
would leave him with long range medical problems. He
would lose his teeth early, thereby changing his
diet to soft foods only. He got very grumpy, biting
my son in the face for trying to move him. He also
suffered from colitis and irritable bowel syndrome.
The exhaust from this dog could have been harnessed
for power! Still, with careful management and lots
of loving, Colonel reached his 13th year of life. He
passed away quietly (in his sleep) under his
favorite shade tree on a hot Spring day. I am sure
that the buzzing bees and singing birds were
hearlding his journey home.
