Lying by the road,
I glimpsed in the
distance,
a reddish shape
as I rode
by.
At first I thought,
"it's a
shirt,
or a strange looking garbage
bag."
At closer look~~~~
it was a
fox!
Small black stockinged feet
still
poised to take another step~~~
fur
unruffled by the
demon that killed
it!
It's life was over
and it lay, so,
undisturbed.
And, I grieved for
it.
This beautiful animal, lost
forever!
Killed; not with traps or
rifles.
Yet, killed by man; just the
same.
Man encrouches forever deeper
into
lands that once were free.
He brings death
and destruction
with his four-wheeled
pets;
and I wonder where it will
end.
Can not something be done,
to let
us ALL share
this shrinking
earth;
before all the beautiful
wild
things are GONE?
