~FOES~
Creeping on their
bellies
across the drifting sand.
Soldiers in
camouflage,
ready to make a stand.
Their politicians have spoken.
Their presidents
have said,
"If you see the enemy,
don't leave
until he's dead."
Now, they stand and face each other.
Both boys of
nineteen or so.
Stunned into inaction
briefly.
Afraid to stay or go.
A second of
widened eyes.
Two rifle shots ring out!
Claiming both their young lives,
because that's
what war's about.
And;
on
both sides;
a mother cries!
