One day, out of the clear blue, my mother decides she wants a kitten. Now, my mother is a "dog person" so this really surprised me. Being the loving daughter that I am, I went off to find her the perfect kitten. I found a beautiful long haired white, and presented my mother with her first (and only) kitten. My mother named her Astro and together they explored the joys of having a kitty in the house. It was a doomed relationship. Mom was working long hours at the time, and Astro was bored and mischievous. First the hosiery was destroyed. Secondly, mom's leather coat. And lastly, a lamp crashing in the dark of night with broken glass EVERYWHERE! The queenly cat (who believed herself to be the only cat in the world) was losing her home. Nothing to do, but bring her to my house. At 4 and 1/2 months of age she was totally unprepared to be anything but the number one cat! One look at all the other pets in my household and she ran into the cellar. Hiding herself in the beams, she would watch the other cats come and go. It took a whole week before she ventured out of that cellar. She was filthy dirty, more grey than white. Cobwebs hung from her whiskers and ears. She was a mess! Although she was no longer a queen; she never seemed to mind. For she had found a sister in Cindy and that was worth more than any throne.
