Times Like These-- Chapter 1

"Not really!" Jess screamed back to her mom, who was asking if she had woken up yet. It was 7:30 and she had to be up and out of the house by 8:15 AM, for Jess...this was a difficult task. She had grabbed a towel and headed into the shower. She was washing her hair when "I Want You Back" came on the radio. She sang along and by the time the song was over she was ready to step out of the shower. She walked back into her room to decide what to wear. She rummaged through her drawers and found an American Eagle shirt and Jeans. She quickly applied some make-up and was ready to leave.

Jess stepped into her black Acura and was on her way to school. She was practically falling asleep at the wheel when she realized she forgot her homework.

"Oh Well." She thought to herself. I am doing well in History anyway. She would be graduating this year. Class of 1999. College scared her but it definitely would be good to get away from her family. She had always felt misunderstood and was defintinitely happier alone. There was only one person that she felt she could relate to; Michelle.

--Michelle--

Michelle was walking into school when she saw Jess farther up ahead. Actually, she was stumbling.

"You look like shit. No offense." Michelle said to Jess. Jess just returned the insult.

"At least it isn't very common for me." They shared a laugh and was on their way. They tried to make it through the day without falling asleep. They were in all of each other's classes and frequently chatted away through their teacher's lectures.

Michelle sat in 3rd period looking at the window. She never really was a big mathematician, so she decided that she won't need it anyway and after getting a full scholarship to Duke she won't need to put as much effort in. She was drifting off when she saw a black van pull up. It was too far away to see who was coming out so she just layed her head down and tried to rest. After about 15 minutes Jessica tapped her on the shoulder trying to wake her up. She was starting to talk in her sleep and Jess didn't want Mr Flaherty to get pissed. As soon as the bell rang the girls got up and went to English, 4th period.
