Times Like These-- Chapter 2

Jessica and Michelle walked down the hall in silence. They had just come out of 4th period and were exhausted. The silence was broken by a sudden gasp from Michelle.

"JESS! Look over there!" She quitely whispered. Jess looked over there and returned a shocked gaze at Michelle. There, standing by room 710 was none other than N Sync.

"What should we do? Should we just walk by like we didn't notice them? Wait, who the hell are they talking to---? Oh my god dude! They are talking to Mr. Talbot!! We should go by, wave to Mr. Talbot...see if he calls us over...we are after all, his favourite students!" Michelle just weakly nodded. She had locked eyes with JC, her self-proclaimed "Love of her life".

As they approached, Mr. Talbot motioned them over to him. They were greeted with a smile.

"Hey Mr. Talbot, look, whatever it was, I didn't do it. Unless it's homework. Then I did do it. Completely, thoroughly and with academic initiative." Jessica quipped. Mr Talbot laughed and pulled them over to the side. Unfortunately for Michelle, she was too busy oogling JC. Jessica had to walk back over and pull Michelle away from the boys.

"OK, now, in case you are wondering, that's N Sync. As a Board of Ed representative I have to show these boys around. Actually, let me rephrase that, as a representative I have to shift the resposibility onto a student, because I don't have time. So--because I know you are into their music, I thought it would be nice to have YOU show them around the town."

"Whoa, wait. Mr Talbot. Ever heard of Quid Pro Quo? One hand washes the other. I have TONS of work to do. AND I do believe it is YOUR responsibility that you willingly took on when you decided to run. What can you do for us?" Jess said. Michelle looked at her blankly.

"I cannot believe you want something in return." Jessica just laughed.

"I'm just kidding...I'll DEFINITELY do it for free. What do we have to do?" Mr Talbot looked over at the guys.

"Hey guys, if you don't mind, I thought it would be good to have Jess and Michelle here show you around. I am sure they know more of the fun things that Cherion Falls has to offer." The guys just nodded in agreement.

"That's totally OK with us." JC mumbled while staring at Michelle. Jessica witnessed this and had to laugh out loud. Chris stared at Jessica and was in awe of her humour. She had ceased to stop smiling since her first layed eyes on her.

"Chris, she's in high school. Get a grip." He thought to himself. He shook his head, his thoughts were interrupted by Jess. "Hey, the guys are walking away. They are already up there. Are you OK?" Chris shook the thoughts out of his head, smiled and started walking. They hadn't caught up to the rest of them so Jess decided to make small chat."

"Can I ask you a question?" She turned to Chris waiting for a response.

"Sure, go ahead."

"Why in god's name did you pick Cherion Falls High to film a video? I mean, look around. It's not that great." As much as Jess tried, she couldn't hide the sadness in her voice. Chris had noticed it, but decided to ask her about it at a later time.

"Well, to tell you the truth I didn't pick the locale. But I'm glad the director picked it. I couldn't believe people left us alone when we first walked it. It was a breath of fresh air knowing you can walk in peace." Jess nodded and the rest of the walk was in silence.

"Hey guys. Can you walk a little faster?" Justin screamed.

"OK, sure." Jess and Chris jogged up to the rest of the group. After chit-chatting for a while they all simultaneously wondered something.

"Where are we going?" Jess and Michelle asked each other at the same time. Shocked looks came across all of the boys.

"You two are too alike." Joey said. "I can tell I'm going to like you two already."

"I wouldn't expect anything else." Michelle said.
