Times Like These-- Chapter 8

Jessica and Justin sat there and attempted to think of something to do. They watched an hour go by and soon heard a knock at the door. Jess turned the radio off and walked to the door, looked through the peephole and smiled.

"Hey Michelle, what's up?" Jess looked at Michelle and thought she looked different. She couldn't quite make out what was different until she looked deeper. Michelle looked peaceful. She actually was rested; something she hadn't been in a long time. The pressures of school, boys and friends caught up with her and she was up all night worrying. But last night it was different. Being near JC calmed her down and somehow made her realize what exactly was important- her. Only when she could take care of herself could she take care of others. If that was overly selfish then she didn't care.

"What are we going to do today? I'm up, showered and ready to go!" Jessica looked down at her clothes. She was in PJ's and her hair was flying all over the place. She sighed and looked back up at Michelle.

"Would you believe that I am an utter idiot? I brought my PJ's but not a change of clothes. I'm going to run back to my house, shower and change." Michelle laughed.

"We all would be so very grateful." Jessica turned around and gave Michelle an obscene gesture. "You've got so much class."

"Of course. We'll I'll be right back." Jess said as she grabbed her keys.

"Wait, your driving in your PJ's?" Justin asked.

"Yes...I am. Now bye." And with that, she kissed him and bounced out the door.

After about an hour Jessica stepped out of her front door, she saw the mailman pull up and when she walked over she saw a small package addressed to her. She turned over the brown envelope silently cursed as something fell out of it. She slowly bent down and gasped. It was the ring.

"I wonder why Michelle felt so bad. She's such a sweetheart." She smiled at the fact that her friend would be so nice to give her the ring back. She put the ring in her pocket and got in her car. As she pulled out of the driveway she thought about the rings history. "I have to move on. I cannot let this all bother me. He meant nothing to me. But the thing is, everyone else refuses to believe it. I'm not distraught. Let me move on damnit. " She arrived at the hotel and walked straight to the elevator. As she reached the 9th floor, she reached in her pocket and looked at the ring. "I am going to give it back to her. She loves it, I loathe it." She stepped out of the elevator and went directly to JC's room. Before she got to knock, Michelle stepped out.

"Hey, Michelle, I really appreciate you giving the ring back. But it's really not necessary. You love it. Take it." Michelle looked at her as if she had 7 heads. She raised her right hand and Jessica almost doubled over and fainted. Luckily Chris caught her. Jess' eyes focused on the shimmering diamonds in the flourescent lighting. It wasn't the same ring. Her heart started beating and a million thoughts ran through her head. "Who sent it? Why? Oh my god. What's happening?" Jessica looked at Michelle.

"Oh my god. Who the FUCK would send something so sick?" Michelle just shook her head.

"I don't know Jess. I wish I knew."
