Their First Harvest

What harvest did the Pilgrims gain,
that first autumn long ago,
As they gleaned thier meager acres,
moving slowly to and fro?

Was it only beans and barley,
pumpkin,squash,they gathered in,
Hanging onions from the rafters,
storing wheat within the bin?

Was it these alone they gathered
on that rough and rocky shore?
No! They reaped a richer harvest!
They had profited far more,

than these material blessings,
which would fill thier future needs;
Thier hearts were full of thankfulness,
and they were glad indeed.

That first year in stern New England
had brought them much of care,
danger and hardship,heavey toil,
and burdens hard to bear.

They looked back on the winter past,
with the trials that filled each day,
When want,starvation--even death--
were never far away.

Yet time had taught them fortitude,
resourcefulness and skill,
Patience and self-reliance,
indomitable will;

And seeking watchful guideance
from Providence on high,
they faced the future calmly,
with a faith that would not die.

With wood piled high, and larders full,
and fields to plant and plow,
With cabins snug against the cold,
they feared no winter snow.

So all of New Worlds bounties,
which they garnered that first fall,
Faith was thier greatest treasure,
the most precious of them all.

God Bless This House..Prayer

God Bless this house~
All those that dwell therein,
And every guest who comes
Its humble walls within.

God keep this house~
From sorrow and alarm,
From sickness,sudden death,
From evil,sin and harm,

God make this house~
A home we all may prize,
A place of peace and rest,
An earthly paradise.

Amen
