Vietnam is more than a war, it is a country. Its population of over 78 million people inhabit an area of about 327,000 sq kilometers for a population density of 225 people per sq km. The coastline of Vietnam extends for 3451 km, with two major delta regions, the Mekong in the south and the Red River in the north. The Truong Son Mountains (Ammanite Cordillera) run through the central part of the country.
Vietnam has a long and rich history, of early settlement, occupation by Chinese, great sea-faring culture, imperial dynasties, colonialism by the French, and its current independent status as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
