When placing your pieces on the board,

make sure that your queen is on her own color.

The king goes beside her on the other central square.

Bishops are next, one on each side of the royal couple,

and knights are on the outside of the bishops.

Finally, your rooks go in the corners, completing the first rank (horizontal row)

of your formation.

Your eight pawns take up your entire second rank, one on each square.

Pieces in position, you're all set to commence.
