About the Show
This hilarious brit-com ran from 1973 to 1984 and was an enormous hit. One of the main reasons (I think...) that it was so popular was that it delt with "normal" people trying to make it through life with wage cuts; nutty, credit stealing bosses; crazy co-workers; AND did it humorusly. I have seen every episode ever made and know them all by heart.
This show used to come on right before Doctor Who and my entire family would gather around the television every Saturday night at nine o'clock to watch. It is a classic that out lived even Doctor Who on my local PBS station.
About the Characters
The main characters of the show were the beautiful Ms.Brahms, junior; The "old bat" Mrs. Slocombe, head of ladies department; The "gay" Mr.Humphries, "almost" the head of the Men's department; The "military" Captian Peacock, floor walker; and the idea stealing boss, Mr Rumbold, manager of the floor. Together they sold over priced, understiched clothes in Grace Brothers department store, smack in the middle of London.
