K-9 Playing Chess
K-9 was a mecanical dog given to the Doctor by Professor
Mariouse at the end of "The Invisible Enemy". K-9 claimed
that he didn't have feelings and that he was completely
emotionless, although he had a tendency to sulk if he didn't
get his way. He also had a rather warped since of hummor.
K9 wasn't really built for the Doctor's fast paced lifestyle, and was constantly breaking down.
He couldn't go outside when it was wet and once managed to catch the robotic version of
layrengites. (lairengitis?)
There were, in fact, two K9's. The first stayed with Leela on Galifrey, so the Doc. built another.
K9 mark II stayed with Ramona in E-space after the Time Winds damaged his memory banks.
He could only continue to work if he stayed behind the mirror. (Long story... Watch the episode.
It's called, "Warrior's Gate" I believe.)
K9 was a loyal friend and had a huge reserve of
facts (useless or otherwize) and was rather fun to watch. In fact, K9 was so popular on the series
he got his very own show called "K9 and Company" with Sara Jane Smith..
