Companions of Tom Baker

Tom Baker's companions have been divied up into three pages. This page includes Harry, Leela and Adric. Sara Jane Smith is on Jon Pertwee's companions' page.

Harry Sullivan (Ian Marter)

Harry Sullivan was an army doctor, assigned to the Doctor (the defenate article, you might say) durring a regeneration crisis. Harry was a bit of a bumbling, unlucky, jinx, but he was still very lovable and tried hard to help. His first episode was Robot (same as Tom Baker) and he was only with the Doctor a short while before deciding to remain on Earth. He wasn't quite suited for the Doctor's lifestyle. The Doctor gave him a pretty hard time usually which made poor Harry more nervous, which, in turn, increased his bumbling, which increased the Doctor's annoyance, etc., etc. He left at the end of Terror of the Zygons, opting to go back to the realitivly calm, quite life of a military man.

Leela (Louise Jameson)

Leela was a savage, decended from the survivors of a space-ship wreck on a deserted planet. She forced the Doctor to take her with him at the end of The Face of Evil. She had a tendency to kill people who she saw as a threat, which gave the Doctor no end of trouble, wore skins for clothing, carried a knife she most certainly was not afraid to use, and was completely incapable of using contractions. (ie: cannot=can't) She left at the end of The Invasion of Time, deciding to stay on Galifrey and marry the Time Lord, Andred.
Leela was one of the first female companions to truly reflect the Women's Liberation front. She only screemed once durring her time with the Doctor--and that was because a huge, gigaintic, man eating rat was chewing on her legs... She was tough, well able to take care of herself, and on more than one occasion told the Doctor, "Do not worry. I will protect you." Of course she still managed to get into horrific, life threatening situations constantly, but at least she didn't screem all the damn time......

Adric

Adric was an orphan the Doctor picked up while stranded in E-Space. He was a wiz at math, but still very young and had a tendency to be very impressionable--and annoying. On several occasions, he actually joined the bad guys, thinking that they were actually right about wanting to take over and rule this planet or that planet. Still, he usually managed to redeam himself. Adric was also a bit of a male cheauvenist pig, but we won't get into that. He did have his good qualities and, apart from a few episodes, I really liked him. Yeah, he was a stuck up brat, but he was an adorable, Hey-Give-Me-A-Break-I'm-Doing-My-Best-Here, kind of stuck up brat. Adric joined the Doctor in the episode, Full Circle. He was killed at the end of EarthShock, trying to save Earth from a cataclismic explosion.
Every thing I've ever read about Adric has been...well...less than flatering. One person even said that they loved the "Castrovalva" episode because they, "Finally got to see that brat Adric tortured." Talk about harsh. I know he got to be a little anoying sometimes. Especially in, "State of Decay" and, "Four to Domesday" but come on. He wasn't that bad.
