The Doctor's Photo Album II

John Pertwee and Tom Baker.

Jon Pertwee

Jon Pertwee played the thrid incarnation of the Doctor. This Doctor was a cool, swave, James Bond type with a taste for excitement and danger. He spent a great deal of his time in this regeneration bannished to Earth, his TARDIS made unoperational by the Time Lords. While on Earth, he got back together with his old friend, Lethbridge Stewert, a Brigader in the army who happened to be head of UNIT (short for United Nations Intelegence Taskforce). UNIT was a special agency designed to deal with alien invasions, strange happenings, ect. (Kinda like the X-Files, only with a few more people working on it....and slightly cheeper special effects...) The Doctor worked with UNIT while he was on Earth to help combat the many, many (many, many, many) atempts by aliens to distory/invade the planet that occured durring this time.
Pertwee's Doctor was far more hi-tech than the previous Doctors. He had all kinds of fun gizmoes from a flying car to a delta wave detector (which looked remarkably like an augmented salad bowl). He also had a pet car named Bessie who, while looking a bit like a peice of old junk, was so fixed up with Time Lord technology she could go from zero to ninty in about three seconds flat.
It was also durring Pertwee's time as the Doctor that his ultimate foe, the Master was introduced. Click on his name to learn more about the Doctor's best enemy. Well....his best enemy that wasn't shaped like a traffic cone...
It was in Jon Pertwee's era as the Doctor that the show really took off. Before it had been a quite popular British children's show. By the time Pertwee left the series, Doctor Who was an international mega-hit.

INTERESTING FACT: Jon Pertwee's first episode as the Doctor was the first in the series to be filmed in color. All of his episodes were filmed in color, but many of the color versions have been lost.

Tom Baker

Tom Baker played the fourth incarnation of the Doctor. This version of the Doctor was irratic and playful. He had a childlike desire to learn about the universe and an unhealthly obsession with jelly babies (gummie-bear-like sweets). Baker played the Doctor for the longest amount of time and the show reached its peak of popularity durring his incarnation. While Pertwee's Doctor had been suave and debonare, decked out in ruffled shirts and well-styled white hair, Baker's Doctor wore almost hobo looking outfits with oversized jackets, baggy pants and a twelve foot long stripped scarf. He was childish and impulsive, often diving into danger and worrying how to get out of the situation later. But he also had a serious side. Some of the most violent and disturbing shows of the entire series came out of this era. Baker left the show at the end of the episode entitled "Logopolis", when the Doctor regenerated as the result of falling off a high walkway.

INTERESTING FACT: Tom Baker married co-star Lalla Ward, who played the second incarnation of Ramana
