STORY OF OUR SECOND WEDDING
In June, 1999 my husband, Vinnie, came to me and said, "Guess what? We're going to get married again on the beach at sunset when we go to Sanibel Island."
What are you talking about?" said I. "Why do we have to get married again? We're already married."
Vinnie assured me it would be a wonderful memory. I thought it was a waste of money. He said we were going to do it anyway. I asked, "Are you going to ask me to marry you?" He said I should not push my luck here.
So, it came to pass that on July 14, 1999, I re-married this man for the second time. He never asked me to marry him. Come to think of it, he never had asked me the first time either.
I was so surprised that the ceremony was absolutely beautiful. I had imagined it would only be an ordinary wedding ceremony, but that was not at all what we had. Ours was a definite renewal ceremony. It was treated as such and began by announcing that we were here to "renew the vows you made years ago". Mentioned was the fact that though life brings with it ups and downs, we still cared enough to reaffirm the original vows we made at our first wedding.
I was completely surprised and delighted to find that my original interpretation of what a vow renewal ceremony would be was completely incorrect. This second ceremony almost meant more to me than our original wedding! It was that touching.
