Plannerboard use
Another great trolling device is the Plannerboards. The Plannerboards are use to get your lures away from the boat. You need to do this because in the spring the Brown Trout are very easily spook and when your boat goes over them the engine noise scares them. So that makes them go to the side of your boat. That's when the plannerboards come in. The plannerboards have the lures off to the side were the fish are moving to. The boards are very important in the spring and they should be the most used out of the trolling devices you use for the spring. The boards can have mulitple lures ran on them on each side. There are two sides to each planner mast. I usually run about 2 lines on each side. See figure 1 for a picture. You can run dipsey divers and other diving planners on the boards. The best one for this would be the Bigjon Minidiver. It is a small Diving plane that gets your lure deep when they are on the boards. These are good for several reasons they are small so they dont take up much room. They dont have as much pull on lines like the bigger divers. This is a good way to catch weary brown's when normal lures cant get down deep enough. When using the boards most people use stickbaits and small spoons. These are good lures for spring browns. Plannerboards are very important and they are crtical if you want to be sucessful. Lake Ontario is well known for its excellent year round fishing and if you dont use the right equipment you well just dream about hooking the a trophy fish out of the Big O'.
