February 22nd
Feb 20th - Tuesday: A rather weak Upper Level Low was approaching Kansas. It was expected to move due east. At best, Long Island might get a dusting of snow late on Thursday.
Feb 21th - Wednesday: A strong Cold Front moved across Long Island in the morning and temperatures which had been in the upper 40's dropped during the day. A surface Low was expected to now form off the VA/NC coast Thursday morning and pass close enought to drop 1-3 inches of snow on NYC and 3-5 inches out on Long Island on Thursday evening. This would be a fast moving storm.
Feb 22nd - Thursday: Some early morning sun by late morning had disappeared behind thickening and lower clouds. It looked, felt, and even smelled like snow.
Some very light snow started to fall @ 4:35 PM. 3-5 inches was still the forecast. At 5 PM the snow became steadier.
By 10 PM the snow had ended with 3 inches on the ground.
February 23 - Friday:The morning was pretty.
A male and female cardinal waited in the bushes for the snow to melt.
The sun came out by 10 AM with temperatures rapidly rising into the 30's, so the snow on the roads melted quickly.
Not a major storm, but it was a nice touch.
