WINTER 2000-01

This site is an attempt at recording the Winter 2000-01 on Long Island. The forecast for the Winter 2000-01 was one of normal temperatures and precipitation, which after the last 3 mild winters, would seem cold and snowy. Let's see how it turned out.

Temperatures were below normal for December. Great South Bay started to freeze.

Starting December 22rd, some of the computer models were predicting a major snowstorm for Long Island in about a week.

Snowstorm ?

A fast moving Clipper dropped another inch of snow on Friday evening, January 5th.

Monday afternoon, Jan 8th, light rain that changed to some light snow in the evening for a 1/2". The next morning there was some more light snow for another 1/2".

January 31st - Temperature gets to 51 degrees . First time that it breaks 50 since December 17th.
