John's AOL Chat Transcript from 9-16-99
AOL changed the wording on some of the questions and at times, left out minor parts of the questions. In the actual chat also, the screenname of the question asker appeared, most of the time anyways. In the transcript, all the screennames were taken out for some reason.
- EAMusic1: Entertainment Asylum and America Online proudly welcome John Stamos! John is here to talk to us about his new CBS movie,
- John Stamos: Hi, everyone! I've missed you all, and I'm not wearing pants!
- Question: I just want to say that you are the hottest guy ever, and I've been your biggest fan since forever! Can you tell me a little bit about your movie,
- John Stamos: First of all, if I wasn't married, I'd marry you. Secondly,
- Question: I was wondering, what was your first celebrity thing you did? Example: commercial, magazine ad, movie, show, play?
- John Stamos: I think the first thing was a Coke commercial with Bill Cosby, but it never aired. The first real big thing I ever got was
- Question: John, are you a singer in real life like you portrayed on the soap
- John Stamos: I'm not a great singer. I feel more comfortable behind the set of drums or something. I did sing on Broadway in the play
- Question: You were wonderful in
- John Stamos: Yeah, I would love to get back on the stage. Doing that play was a highlight of my life, but it's tough because you have to give up a whole year to do it right. Right now there seems to be a lot of other projects going on. I'm dying to do more theater. It was a life-changing experience for me. The food's good in New York.
- Question: Hi, John! I loved your acting in
- John Stamos: Pick a topic! You're all over the place! I'll answer both, though. If there is anyone out there on the fence about marrying a supermodel, I suggest it. It just makes things easier.
- Question: Would you consider doing a sitcom again?
- John Stamos: Actually, the last two years I've been under a development deal to do my own show. And so, when the right show comes around, I think I would do it. But this time around, I'm going to have a more adult-themed show. No kids, no animals.
- Question: What is Annabeth Gish like?
- John Stamos: She's incredible! She is an amazing actress who any actor is very lucky to work with. She's become a real good friend of Rebecca and [me]. She has a weird shaped head!
- Question: Do you really admire Elvis?
- John Stamos: Yes. Thanks for asking. Who doesn't? It's hard to be funny online.
- Question: What do you do for fun, John?
- John Stamos: I always have a lot of musicians around the house and, you know, play music, get on the piano and sing, have a couple of non-alcoholic beers. I'm joking on that!
- Question: Do you have a website? What is it?
- John Stamos: I do...and it's all naked pictures of me.
- Question: John, where are you originally from, what nationality or heritage?
- John Stamos: I'm originally from Orange County. I was brought up near Disneyland. I'm Greek and proud of it!
- Question: Is your appearance on
- John Stamos: Thank you for being so aware of my schedule! Do you want to be my publicist? I just finished
- Question: John, I've been your biggest fan forever! Are you at all like Jesse in
- John Stamos: First of all, I didn't know I was so hot. Secondly, if you like Jesse, I'm like him. If not, I'm totally different!
- Question: I heard you were producing a miniseries on the Beach Boys and will be playing Dennis Wilson. That true?
- John Stamos: The first part is true. I'm producing a 4-hour miniseries for ABC which will air in February, and it's been a pet project of mine for some time now. And I'm so honored and excited to pay homage to my heroes in a respectful, loving way. But I'm not playing Dennis because we felt the time line was too long, and so we made it more about the younger years, and now I'm too damned old.
- Question: Did you get hit by Floyd today?
- John Stamos: Yeah, it's a little scary in New York. Floyd is acting up. They also have these killer mosquitoes that are flying around. So I'm afraid to leave my hotel room. P.S., I'm doing my own typing tonight!
- Question: What are you doing to prepare for the year 2000?
- John Stamos: Drinking! Next question!
- Question: Do you and your wife have any pets? If so, what kind?
- John Stamos: Rebecca has two rabbits that drive me crazy. She thought one of them was gay, and then we realized that it wasn't a boy, and she is pregnant now. So I'm expecting a lot of annoying rabbits. And we have two German shepherds that I love.
- Question: Now that you're married, do you see yourself becoming a dad anytime soon?
- John Stamos: Yeah! Right now things are a little busy with the both of us. But, I expect, hopefully, soon. I'm getting old and it's time to have kids.
- Question: Have you ever had a life-changing event? I heard there is one for your character in this movie.
- John Stamos: I think, well, I've had a lot of life-changing events. That's the good thing about life. It keeps changing. You have to embrace change. People are afraid to change sometimes. But I've had a lot. Most recently, of course, would be marriage. But most of my changes have been for the good. So I'm excited when they come around. God, am I too serious?
- Question: I wanted to know, who is your favorite actor?
- John Stamos: I have so many. I love all the old guys. But my latest favorite is Tony Curtis.
- Question: Do you have any music out yet?
- John Stamos: I've been kind of hiding behind the Beach Boys for the last 15 years. I never really felt that I was good enough to put out my own album. So it's just kind of been easier to ride the coattails of a legendary band.
- Question: Where are you from in Greece? Apo pou eisai stin ellada?
- John Stamos: My family is from Tripoli. Don't write Greek, because I only know the dirty words!
- Question: I loved you on
- John Stamos: I'm very good friends with everybody. And, to me, the worst part of the show not being on anymore is to not see my friends everyday like I used to. But we still keep in touch. And if I ever need to borrow money, I call the Olson twins!
- Question: How long did it take you to film
- John Stamos: It took about a month. We shot in Toronto and Boston. I think people are going to really like this movie. It really has a true, honest feel about it. You don't normally see this type of romantic comedy as a TV movie.
- Question: Do you ever watch sports, and if so, what is your favorite sport and sports team?
- John Stamos: I am an embarrassingly lame athlete. I can't play any sport. In fact, I had to play racquetball in the movie
- Question: John, will you ever write an autobiography?
- John Stamos: I'm too boring. It would be a boring book. We go to bed at 8:00 every night. And my life doesn't have enough controversy. I don't think I'll ever be a True E! Hollywood Story.
- Question: So what is the hardest part of being famous?
- John Stamos: Nothing. People ask that and it's like, what's so terrible about it? You know? I mean, I'm very, very, very lucky. And I wouldn't trade my life for anything.
- Question: With all the celebrities and pro wrestlers that seem to be running for office, is there a chance that we may see
- John Stamos: There's a better chance of me going into wrestling!
- EAMusic1: John, is there anything you'd like to say to your fans?
- John Stamos: Thank you for taking the time to write to me here. It's been a pleasure. And I appreciate all the support over the years. I'm now leaving my hotel room to have Chinese food, and I'm going to be hungry an hour later. Thank you! Goodbye!
- EAMusic1: Thanks, John! Be sure to check him out in the CBS movie
