Kiru began his training at the age of 5. He has been trained in many systems. At age 15, he began teaching his best friend and his brother. After a while, he gave them both names. His friend he named Arashi. His brother he called Awase.
After some time, the three of them discussed plans for a Martial Arts club, which they would call the Black Flame. In reality, this was just a fight club for Martial Artists. Their goal was to bring together many fighters they could test their skills against, see what really works, develop their methods further, and even learn from the other fighters. This was also how Kiru learned the Gracey system. He learned it from one of the fighters who was an expert in it.
The other fighters noticed that the 3 who started the club possessed unusual combat abilities. They also wanted to learn, but Kiru wouldn't teach outside of his chosen disciples.
Eventually, he decided that there needs to be a way for him to teach others. By the old ways in which he was taught, he could not just give out the methods. However, there was a way he could teach others, yet still not break his vow. A new society, wherein all members had to go through levels, proving themselves and their loyalty.
Also, Kiru decided he needed to form a new system that was entirely flexible, constantly evolving. A system belonging to the new society. Not an art to be practiced, but a Way that comes from those who are a part of it.
He sent out word to all members to come up with a new name for it. One member, Mandy (yep, a female fighter), spoke some Japanese and came to Kiru daily with new ideas. Eventually, she came to him with the word "Kouryou", meaning "Hidden Genius". He immediately knew that this was exactly the right name for it.
To begin this new order, Kiru decided to start everyone at the bottom to work their way up. Few were capable of actually handling the system, because it required absolute devotion. So it was not easy to find those who could make it in. It was this way because Kiru did not want to settle for less than the best. After all, he was offering something that one could not find in a public dojo. And he was the only person who anyone could could learn this system from.
After a while, Kiru grew tired of so many people being unable to make it because of the impossibly high standards. So he began working on a system to help people prepare for the more advanced testing and training. This resulted in 3 orders within the overall order, plus a probationary period before joining that would test the most important aspects while preparing people for what is to come. In fact, he made it so that once a person begins and takes the first few steps, the rest of the walk becomes fairly natural. To say easy would be incorrect... It becomes so much a part of the individual that everything that is needed becomes natural for the person to do.
As Kiru worked hard on this, he found Arashi had slipped away from the training, preferring instead to be lazy. This came after he got married and had a daughter. So he replaced him with a new sub-leader called Nyo.
Shortly after the replacing, Arashi betrayed Kiru and the entire Kouryou Kai by giving over secret information to their enemies and setting Kiru up to take a hard fall. Kiru then was gone for a long time while Nyo was to run the order. And while Kiru was gone, Nyo too ended up betraying and tried to take over the Kouryou Kai and disgrace Kiru's name. Fortunately, however, no one followed him, but instead remained loyal to Kiru.
After all the bad that had come, it seems like he'd give up. But no one who really knows Kiru would ever expect that. Instead, he used all the negative to a positive end. Since Nyo had driven the order into the ground, Kiru let the old die so that he could renew it and start off fresh.
Upon Kiru's return, many from his hometown remembered him and requested that he begin teaching them. He agreed to teach anyone who shows up ready to begin, and never those who ask but don't seem to really mean it. This brings us up to today. If anyone wants to join the Kouryou Kai, they first must start out by proving that they really mean it. Don't just ask to learn. Show up ready. Don't say "will you teach me"? Say "let's get started".
