Chapter 10

When I calmed down a little bit, I asked Brian if he could call my house to tell Ami and Kevin that my mother just died. Brian nodded, then he kissed me, walked me to a chair, then went to find a pay phone after I sat down.

The phone was ringing at my house. Ami, who was waiting by the phone, picked it up. "Hello."

"Hi Ami."

"How is everything going?"

She heard Brian take a deep breath. She didn't take that as a good sign. "Cassie's mom just died."

Ami started crying. "Tell her I'll be there as soon as I can. I'm leaving right now. Tell her I'm sorry."

"I will. See you in a little bit."

"Bye."

Brian went back to the waiting room and he found me leaning over with my head in my hands. He lifted my head up, and we just sat there for twenty minutes holding each other.

When Ami got to the hospital, the three of us went upstairs. We saw Dr. Jones talking to two police officers.

Dr. Jones saw me and he said, "Cassie, the police would like to talk to you."

I nodded, then one of the officers said, "We would like to talk to you at the station. You can bring your friends if you want to," he said, meaning Ami and Brian.

Before we went left, the doctor said, "I am very sorry Miss Parrison."

When we got to the police station, the three of us went to a room. A couple minutes later, three police officers came into the room.

A tall officer said, "I am Officer Smith, and this is Officer Jamison and Officer Peary."

They sat down and Officer Jamison said, "Your parents were driving home on the highway when a drunk driver hit them. The man, Peter Walsh, has been arrested."

I was in total shock. I couldn't believe my parents were dead because someone was driving when they were drunk.

The three men talked about a couple more things. The last thing Officer Peary said was, "There will probably be a trial (I have no idea if there would really be one, but I'm making it up).

When Ami, Brian, and I got back to my house, Kevin was waiting there for us. Brian took me upstairs to my room, while Ami told Kevin what happened.

I was laying on my bed upstairs. The reality of what happened today finally set in. I would never see my parents again. All becuase of one stupid guy who tried to drive home drunk.

Brian was laying next to me in bed. He held me in his arms until I fell asleep, then he went downstairs to talk to Ami and Kevin.

"I feel so bad for Cassie." Kevin was saying.

"I know. So do I. I wish there was something I could do for her." Brian said.

"So do I. She was always close to her parents," Ami added. "You know what might help a little?" Ami said.

"What?" Kevin and Brian asked at the same time.

"We can invite Nick, AJ, Michelle, and Howie here. They can stay at my house. That might cheer Cassie up."

Brian and Kevin agreed, so Ami went to her house with Kevin. Brian went back upstairs, and sat at my desk until I woke up about an hour later.

"Hey. How do you feel?" Brian asked gently.

"Like a piece of shit," I answered truthfully.

Brian and I went downstairs and sta in my almost empty kitchen. We sat in silence until I suddenly yelled, "Why the hell did this have to happen!? My parents didn't deserve to die!"

Brian came over and comforted me, but all I could think was 'my life just changed so much. I will never see my parents again. Nothing will ever be the same.'

Brian led me into the living room. The last thing I remember that night was Brian singing to me before I fell asleep on the couch.
