Reboot stuff

There are many Reboot products out there, including action figures, toys, merchandise, books/videos, trading cards (and stickers, pogs, etc), Sony Playstation game, and cds. I myself have a few from Ebay (trading cards, Dot, Mouse's vehicle from the "The Great Brain Robbery" that comes with a mini Bob and Mouse, "The Tiff" book, and Reboot CD -- Dot version,* while my brother once had the Reboot video game, which he found a tad lame). I also like the look of a pull over sweatshirt with a little pic of Hack and Slash. At any rate, my purpose here is talk a bit about the Reboot CD, which comes in various varieties that each come with an action figure of one of the main characters on the show. I got the Dot variety that comes with a Dot dressed up in her "Talent Night" red dress, and the cd has a pic of Dot in her "Starship Alcatraz" outfit.

After you load the cd on your computer (and choose English or French, since many Reboot toys are made in Canada where both languages are spoken), you see the opening montage of the show, and then you type in the particular number code for the cd you have. The code will determine the picture shown on the front page as well as the content of the trivia game. You then have three options: relatively easy trivia game (get 5 or more of seven and you get a bonus clip and entry into a contest over for three years now), tour of Mainframe, or video clips (show opening, Dot singing at Enzo's birthday party, the Bob/Megabyte guitar duel, and a commercial for Irvin Toys). The tour is pretty well done -- you get to see different looks at the six sectors of Mainframe as well as Lost Angles. It also makes clear Dot's father accidently destroyed that city by trying to turn nulls into sprites.

Since the CD gives a good view of it, let me now give a brief overview of what Mainframe looks like. If we imagine the city as a circle divided into six parts with Lost Angles to the southeast, going clockwise, starting with the 12 o'clock position: Ghetty (G) Prime, Baudway, Kit's Sector, Floating Point, Beverly Hills and Wall St. The center of the circle is the Principle Office. A look at each:

  • G Prime: Megabyte's sector; Old Man Pearson's Data Dump is in the lower level of sector
  • Baudway: Dot's Diner, entertainment centers, home of Dot and Enzo, as well as Al's Diner in the Section 31, which is the lower level
  • Kit's Sector: residental waterfront property, home of Bob and Mike the TV among others
  • Floating Point: energy park where Dot and Bob met in "The Tiff"
  • Beverly Hills: high rent district, home of Mr Mitchell of "The Crimson Binome"
  • Wall St: business sector
  • Principle Office: Phong's residence, medical offices, the Archives, and other system offices
  • Lost Angles: Hexadecimal's domain

The CD collection also includes: Hack, Megabyte, Slash, Enzo, Bob, and Frisket (in order of location on the picture on the box). The prize that you had a chance to win in a exo-skelton suit, which is sometimes found on Ebay, as well perhaps at various toy stores, including some Toys (backward) R US outlets (not the ones near me, but I'm told some have it). The picture is a copy of the front of my Dot CD version of this figure/CD collection.
