For those of you who didn't know of us from way back when, it's because FiBergLaSs was originally a ONE MAN BAND!! Yes, for about three years Joey (guitar/vocals) struggled with undedicated, unskilled bassists and drummers, before finding what we now call FiBergLaSs. After buying a four-track cassette recorder, Joey recorded and played all the instruments himself on a 12 song demo (Cotton Candy) in search of a REAL band to play with. In early March of 1998, after months of being bugged by Danny (bass), the two jammed to see if two-month-long-bass-playing Danny was really as good as he said he was. He sucked, but was good enough to get the job done! After some lessons from Joey, a duo was now formed and the two practiced the songs from Cotton Candy while they searched for a drummer. In late April of 1998, while at Jazz band practice, an almost all-state Brentwood High School trumpet player, Steve, came to visit the 2:00 Brentwood Jazz band, which Joey played guitar for as well. Steve got on the drums after rehearsal, and Joey realized Steve knew what he was doing, and knew he was also into the same music! WOO HOO!! Joey soon gave Steve the demo tape of the stupid one-man-band, and was asked to join FiBergLaSs soon after. In May of 1998, FiBergLaSs was officially formed.
olie Powell is a folk/punk project who's goal is to stir up the punk scene. i don't really know how to describe what i'm trying to do. i've always tried to do bands, but have never really been successful with it. i've been writing and playing my own songs since late fall of '95. but the reasons that you've probably never heard of mE are, 1) i didn't play mY first show till June of '99; and 2) i didn't go by the name of olie Powell until April of '99. i actually got my name the night i asked Fiberglass if they would sign with mY label. i was walking home from the show and i stepped on this sign that was all broken. it said on it - olie Powell. i thought it was pronounced like the skateboard trick, but it turned out that it wasn't. so, that was how i got my name. after the studio cover band i was in (Jerry's Kids) did a really horrible track for the Waggy comp, i decided to put on one of my folk/punk songs instead. it was supposed to be - Message of Doom (a song i wrote to put on some girls answering machine), which was titled by Even Angry, but left the master at a friends house. so then i recorded a new song i had been working on called - "Sidewalk". it turned out to be the one on the comp. there's really not more to me than that. since my first show i've played three others and turned down two others. i've recorded an ep which is coming out on Ragnor Bloodaxe Records, and soon will be putting out a 7" split with Ian Campbell on this label. i was asked to play when i was out in California at the club where Jewel got discovered, but also turned that one down. that would've been my first gig in a real place. and i don't know what else to say. so, BLAH!
The DOWN WITH BRYAN story
Down With Bryan is a four peice street punk band outta eastern long island. we started in november with adam my way (guitar + vox) frank (guitar + vox) and jesse whipped (bass + vox). we had one song and little else going for us. we practiced in franks garage and adam's bedroom where things where really cramped and we couldnt move or turn up our amps loud cos adam's parents were in the next room. our first big obstacle was the fact that we had no drummer. be as it may, we continued to practice alot and write songs, even book shows (we never played any of them). our dreams were finally realized in the small frame of Scott boyce, the kid jesse used to go to a home schooling group with. scott joined the band about a week ago (january 16th) and has yet to practice with down with bryan. but atleast now we can say we have a dummer. so now we are working on a split cd with some other bands from across the country and a few songs for comps. we hope to get playing shows really soon cos all we wanna do is play. we'll have a song on the soon coming outta my way comp and maybe our cd will be on it by the end of this year. we write songs about america and politicians both being dumb and things that we hold true in our hearts. we dont write love songs and half the band is vegetarian, so we sing about that sometimes too. write for contact: Jesse Whipped, adaM My Way, Frank Down With Bryan site
the wayward boys were formed because of the love of a band named pedro the lion. i shouldn't tell anyone that, cause that makes us sound dorky. anyways, Ian Lofer had been writing some new songs that weren't very Dangerous Parallel, and wanted to put them out as something else. he needed a band that fit the mood of the songs. something Pedro-esc... so one night at a friends house, he asked Nick and Noah if they wanted to be a part of a new band. he had already talked with Jamie Ewing about it. Jamie had been itching to get into a new band and so he agreed. Noah and Nick said cool, and so they had a band. the idea was to make it like folky, but not nerdy. Ian then talked to me about the band... the same night at the same friends house (Katie Deacon's house). i had been sitting around in her brothers room playing some songs i had been working on. he asked me if i too would like to be in the band. after he explained to me what he wanted it to be like, i said yes. the first practice took place in Ian's room. Ian spent the evening teaching Noah the songs he had written and they practiced a Weakerthans song along with them. me and Jamie got there late... but still got in about 30 good minutes of practice. the next day we had the second practice at 9 o'clock before Food Not Bombs. we played Ian's songs again, and i taught them mine. and it was good, but something wasn't working. it wasn't until a week later when we practiced with Nick that we figured out that we sounded better as an indie rock/emo band then we did as a folk band. and that's how the the band was formed. we came up with a bunch of names one night at Katie's house... a bunch of dumb names. we almost called ourselves David the Knome, but about an hour later (while discussing "boys town") we came up with the name the Wayward Boys. and that's the whole story. blah. adaM The Wayward Boys site
