What Scouting Life BBS is
Scouting life is a
BBS which is short for Bulletin
Board System.
The BBS software that I am running is
Wildcat 4.20 with a mailer frontend called Platinum
Xpress Mail Server for DOS. What this BBS software
does it allows a person to set up a interface for
users to interact by the use of dialing with thier computer
modems. The software you need to CONNECT to a BBS is a
"terminal program" The following is small amount of
the items you will find online, read bulletins,
newsletters, participate in public and private message
areas that are carried around the entire globe,
download a large varitey of games, applications for
business, educational shareware, various needed drivers
as well utilities. You can also visit our online gaming
area known as BBS doors, as well as much much more!
Scouting Life BBS is a non-commercial system.
95 % of the message base is from Fidonet - ( a global message network.)
The fidonet message base is moderated to keep them under
control, The files that we carry from fidonet as well as all the files that we offer for download
are scanned repeatedly for viriuses both before they arrive,
and upon arrival to the system, and people of a seedy
or malicious nature are generally weeded out of the BBS
user bases, keeping the BBS a freindly and fun
environment for the users.
If you are unfamiliar with BBS's, you can get more detailed information at the L.O.C.A.L. BBS Promotion Site which I am happy to be the co-founder of :)
Scouting Life is primarily set up for Scouts and their families to participate in, but others are welcome as well, as long as they agree to conduct themselves in a manner and style that enhances and enriches the moral values of the tradition of scouting. On THIS BBS, SCOUTING, and it's great traditions come first and foremost!
On the following pages, you will learn what the mission of Scouting Life BBS is, what you will find on the BBS, some things you will NEVER find on the BBS, how you can easily connect to Scouting life, the Scouting Life Code Of Conduct, and you will get a chance to sign our guestbook and leave comments on what you think of the concepts and principles we are trying to present to our youthful citizens.
I hope that you will find the information on these pages useful, informative, and refreshing, and that scouts, their families, ex-scouts, or just those looking for an online environment.
Sincerly,
Gregory J. Deyss
