Carolyn Parker Allen, 80, of Hanceville who passed away Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Hanceville Nursing Home.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is notifying.
Mrs. Allen was born on June 21, 1928, in Brewton, Ala., to Claude Lynwood and Annie Laurie Hughes Parker. At about eight years of age, she sang on Amateur Night at the Alabama Theatre and won first prize in her age group.
Then she sang for the next year with Hank Williams, a young rising star. Soon after World War II, she married George Cox. They had one son, George, before divorcing. In 1966, she married Charles Allen of Montgomery and they were married for 35 years, living in Prattville. As a young adult, she worked for Burford Equipment, a tractor company, and then for Sunday Dinner, but she worked the longest and for many years at Sears Roebuck Company.
Prior to living at Hanceville Nursing Home, she was a resident of Benedictine Manor since 2000.
