"Sowing the Seeds of Love"
by Melissa
(A short but sweet story involving Lou and Kid, and using only songs from the 1980s. I happen to be a "pop-bubblegum-80s music freak" I thought it might be fun to do. I had a lot of fun reliving my teenage years while writing this, but I warn you now… it will probably make you sick from the sweetness!)
***************************
As Lou walked over to the barn where Kid was brushing down Katy, she knew that even though it would irk her to no end, she had to be the one to apologize. I’ve finally gone too far this time, she thought to herself. I entered the danger zone when I made that last comment to Kid.
"Kid?" Lou said quietly.
Kid had his back turned towards her as he continued to brush Katy and pretend like he hadn’t heard Lou.
"Kid, I know you can hear me, you can’t fool me. I knew you were waiting for me, that’s why you’ve been brushing Katy for almost two hours!"
Kid turned around to face the woman who held his heart in her hands, and had been doing a good job of crushing it lately.
"Lou, I really don’t feel like talkin’ now."
"Well, I can’t fight this feeling anymore. I don’t wanna lose you, and I want you to know that I would do anything for you. Just please don’t shut me out like this." Lou’s eyes filled with tears.
"Lou, if you love me so much, then why do you build my hopes up just fill my heart with shattered dreams?" Kid answered her, his own eyes filling with tears. "When I asked you to marry me, I put my heart on the line. But you just keep me hangin’ on!"
Lou’s cheeks were now streaked with tears as she struggled not to completely lose control. "Ever since telling you that I wouldn’t marry you, I’ve felt like a bird with broken wings."
Kid turned to look back at Lou, a faint glimmer of hope shining in his eyes. "I hate being the owner of a lonely heart. There’s nothing I want more than to have you hold me now and to let me get lost in your eyes again and again. I forget all of my fears and worries when I see you smile, and I want you to know that I will always be right here waiting, regardless of whether or not you decide to ever marry me."
Lou smiled, a truly sincere smile that warmed her from head to toe. "Then I guess that means I’m stuck with you, eh?"
"You mean?" Kid asked hopefully. He knew he was putting his heart on the line again, but he had to know.
Lou nodded. "You’d make me the happiest girl in the wild wild west if you would marry me!"
Kid opened his arms and Lou practically flew into them. Kid smiled down and kissed his bride-to-be gently. "We have the power of love keeping us together, and nothing’s gonna stop us now or ever again!"
Lou reached up to wrap her arms around Kid’s neck and kissed him deeply. "Now," she began, an evil glint in her eyes, "if only you could take me home tonight, I’d be a much happier girl!"
Kid laughed and first the first time knew that everything was going to be okay. He had an incredible urge to jump up and shout his happiness to all within earshot, but decided there was plenty of time for that later– right now he’d rather kiss Lou again… and again… and again!
