SUPERBOWL XXVI - JAN. 1992

BILLS vs. REDSKINS

MARV'S MAXIMS:

"A coach's ability to perceive his surroundings is often obscured by clouds of inner thought. Only during rare moments of complete openness to his environment does he get a true sense of football reality. This should be the upmost goal in people's minds: To strive towards this state of awareness, which is the state of being completely awake and alive, the state of feeling every molecule in your body......."

PLAY OF THE GAME:

With 41 seconds left, and the Bills trailing the Redskins 45-42, Scott Norwood attempts a 38-yard field goal. A bad snap allows time for a hog to get in and block the kick. The ball bounces around for what seems like eternity with everyone diving for it, before Norwood scoops it up and waltzes in, untouched for the winning touchdown! BILLS 49 REDSKINS 45.

MARV'S MAXIMS CONTINUED -

"... the ability to fuse into the outside world. To do this, one's mental conception of 'things' as being concrete forms must melt into a river of energy. This very energy must flow with the 'current' of life, the 'tide' of time, and the 'flood' of perennial change. This flowing 'mass' knows no boundaries of time nor space as it travels through the voids of eternity. It was this train of thought which helped me achieve my ultimate goal: The Vince Lombardi Trophy!"
