Snoop Dogg

Real Name: Calvin Brodaus
Nicknames: Snoop Dogg, Tha Doggfather
Hometown: Long Beach City, California

Snoop was born on October 20,1972 in the LBC (Long Beach, CA) off 21st St. Snoop is currently 25 years old. Snoop grew up in a regular household, siblings and mother and father. Snoop used to sing in the church choir. He got his name from his parents and other friends because they said he looked like a dog, and when he was a born, he had hair and his dad said he looked like the Peanuts character Snoopy. So as a child, he was nicknamed Snoopy. As a teenager, Snoop got arrested with attempt of selling cocaine, and did time in prison. Snoop grew up around Warren G and Nate Dogg, and together they started rapping, making underground tapes. They formed their group, 2-3-1, and one night at a party while Snoop was rapping, Dr. Dre, Warren G's half brother, heard Snoop and offered him to come be his partner at Death Row Records. When Suge Knight signed Snoop to Death Row, Dr. Dre and Snoop teamed up to do a song, "Deep Cover" off the movie, Deep Cover. The song became a hit, then Dr. Dre came out with his first debut solo album, "The Chronic," with help from Snoop. "The Chronic" took Snoop's name into the rap game and within a few months, Dr. Dre produced Snoop's big debut release, "Doggystyle," with its hit single, "What's My Name." Three years later, Dr. Dre left Death Row Records, Suge Knight signed 2pac. Snoop appeared on 2Pac's Death Row debut, "All Eyez On Me," and Snoop began hanging around 2Pac. At the time, Snoop was on trial for a murder shoot-out, which he got off on. After 2Pac died, Snoop put out his second album, "The Doggfather," without Dr. Dre and dedicating it to the late 2Pac. Then, Suge Knight went to prison and wouldn't allow Snoop to release his third album, "Doggumentary," which never happened. Snoop then wanted to form his own record label, Doggystyle Records, to give him a reason to do his own thing and to leave Death Row. After seeing Dr. Dre leave Death Row and hearing 2Pac got killed, Snoop feared for his life as well. Master P heard about Snoop's troubles at Death Row and wanted to help the rapper get out of his mess. P had Snoop appear on Mystikal's, "Gangstas" off Unpredictable, and then on Silkk's "Throw Ya Hood Up" off Charge It 2 Da Game. After giving Snoop sample songs to see how well he worked with, Master P signed him to No Limit Records. Snoop started appearing on many more No Limit albums after that. After Snoop signed with No Limit, he dropped the "Doggy" in his name because he thought that was back in his Death Row days, and stuck with just "Snoop Dogg." Then in early August of'98, Snoop dropped his first, highly anticipated album off No Limit Records, Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told. Snoop is now part of C-Murder's new group, Tank Dawgs, consisting of C-Murder, Fiend, Mac, and Snoop Dogg himself. Their untitled album is due out sometime in '99. Snoop even introduced his second upcoming album off No Limit called Top Dogg, which plans to be released in '99. BackNext
