Prom Night

Her date arrived on time

A quarter till eight

With corsage in hand

For this most important date

Of course her daughter

Was ready you know

But always best to make him wait

Before she first shows

For this first big prom

Brought a tear to her eye

For her little girl was becoming a woman

She tired so hard not to cry.

She kissed her goodbye

As she shut the door

Feeling happy but sad

As she stared at the hardwood floor.

Her husband out with the guys

Fishing would be gone for three days

She needed to get out

Why should she have to stay?

She threw on some clothes

Ran a comb through her hair

Jumped in the car

Where she was going she really didn’t care.

Windows rolled down

Radio blasting to American Pie

Drove her Chevy to the levy

And the levy was dry

Made her think of so

Many many years have gone bye

Thinking of her life now

Brought a tear to her eye

For years she has lived

It seems for her children’s care

Is it selfish for her to want more?

Her husband isn’t there

She had driven for miles

When spotted a party store sign

She stopped and brought

Herself a bottle of strawberry wine

The sun would soon be setting

She thought to herself I might watch it go down

And she pulled into Paradise Lake exit

Threw her shoes off felt so good to her feet on the bare ground

Ankle deep in the water

A bottle of wine in her hand

Watching the sun rippling on the water

She looked down at her wedding band

For eighteen years

She has worn this gold ring

She was promised back then

What happiness marriage would bring.

Lost in the sunset

Her mind for the minute set free

A whippoorwill song serenades her

High up in a tree.

She hadn’t noticed

The man walking her way

As he called out good evening

How are you doing today?

He was tall and good-looking

With a wonderful kind smile

Half startled she didn’t answer

As she thought for a while.

Good and you kind sir

As she returned his sweet stare

So looked into his eyes

Speechless as they both just stood there.

Would you care to take a walk

If you don’t find me too bold

She just put out her hand

As they watch the evening unfold.

The stars were on fire

As they walked barefoot in the sand

As they laughed and talked

He reached over to take her hand.

I see you are married

I am also married you see

But after 17 years

I need more something is missing for me.

They talked on for a few hours

The time just flew by

He made her feel so wonderful

As the moonlight reflecting in her eyes.

She saw his desire

The need in his eyes

Made her feel so wonderful

So warm inside

Without saying a word

He kissed her left cheek

She kissed him right back

Too afraid to speak

The evening spontaneous

Everything felt too good to be wrong

She felt like a teenage girl

For the minute this is where she belonged.

18 years of wondering

Dreaming fantasies desires

Held within for years

Becoming a raging fire

Only one way to

Extinguish the flames

Tonight she was a wild beast

Not wanting to be tamed.

Under the light of the moon

under the light of the stars

Lost in loves ecstasy, past the planets

of Jupiter, Pluto, and Mars.

You couldn’t call it love

You couldn’t call it lust

The look in her eyes could tell it all

With each and every thrust.

They explored each other

In a way like Adam and Eve

But it wasn’t like a sin

It's all how you believe.

The early morning rays

As they laid in the comfort nude upon the sand

She kissed him without saying a word

Words right now would be more than they could stand

Walking down the beach

Back towards her car

Only a half a mile or so

Really not that far.

She never looked back

As she could feel him standing there

He could see right through her

In his wonderful loving stare.

They never met again

Everything was too perfect everything too right

They both gave to the other was missing

On this one summer prom night…
